This Weekend: SPACE (Small Press & Alternative Comics Expo)What's next for comic fans after C2E2? SPACE, the Mid-West's largest exhibition of small press, alternative and creator-owned comics!

On April 21 & 22, the 13th annual Small Press & Alternative Comics Expo (SPACE) will be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. SPACE, the only locally owned comics convention in the Columbus area, is the Mid-West's largest exhibition of small press, alternative and creator-owned comics. Comic artists, writers and publishers from all over the US will display an incredible diversity of genres and styles- autobiography, history, social issues, fantasy, science fiction, horror, humor and everything in between even the occasional superhero.

Creators who produce the finest in print comics as well as many webcomics creators will be on hand.

SPACE is a unique opportunity to discover the amazing array of independent comics as well as a chance to interact with the creators.

SPACE is committed to bringing this great treasure trove of work to the public, with no increase in admission prices for the last 7 years as well as discounted advanced ticket sales.

There will be over 170 exhibitors in attendance including nationally know Nate Powell, Carol Tyler, John Porcellino, Tom Scioli, and Eric Adams as well as local favorites Dara Naraghi, Tom Williams, Max Ink, Michael R. Neno, and Ken Epstein . (See the following pages for exhibitor bios)

We will have a full slate of programming including panels and presentations on small press comics, webcomics, the Ohio State Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, the 2011 SPACE Prize presentations and the Columbus Premiere of the Cynicalman Movie!

Other events surrounding SPACE include Max Ink's Blink: WWK exhibition at the Wild Goose Collective, The SPACE Pre-party at the Laughing Ogre Comic Shoppe and the Live Art Event at Bowties Lounge on the grounds of the Hotel. Check http://backporchcomics.com/program.htm for details.

I missed it. Good wow or bad wow?

I just got home and have gotten through about five of the twenty or thirty comics that I got so far.

My favorite thus far: White Out by Leslie Andesron, which my wife picked out. It's got a cute little Cthulhu story in it.

And I went back for more. :|

Picked up the things I told a few artists I would buy if I'd had more cash yesterday.

I know Bob and the artists there appreciate the hard work that went into the publicity for the event and individuals here.

(just don't tell Jude it's probably gonna be the same weekend as C2E2 next year!)

I ran out of money again today. It was like I was binging on comics.

Met a lot of cool people this weekend too. I had a blast.

I sold a box for $90 this morning just so I could go back and spend recklessly.

Well that's awesome! I'm glad to know the work I contribute to is appreciated.
I'm going to have to try and make that show next year. I totally want to walk out with a box of indies!!!

Apparently some of the out-of-towners were a little put off by their stay at the inn, with a domestic violence outbreak on one of the floors and a 3 AM fire alarm. :|

I heard about that a few times in passing.

I did hear a lot of positive response to this year's con, though, and a lot of "we'll be here next years".

We also got a few invites to CACE, the Chicago equivalent to SPACE in June.
