Then I would say the Starks (and Jon Snow) and Dany (once her story gets going later this season) are the main characters of Game of Thrones.
In terms of plot importance or screentime, they haven't been on for any less time than any of the people you mentioned.

I don't know about Heroes Twigg
after season 1 Peter and Nathan became such background characters and out of the main action I don't think they qualified anymore.
Of course everything after season 1 of Heroes was utter garbage so...

No ensemble show has a true main character. That's why they're ensemble shows.
Some characters may be more important one season.. others may be more important another.. but it's the sum of the parts that matter.
Jack wasn't any more important than Locke or Sawyer throughout the series. Only in the final season or two did it really become more about him.

to say Jack was the main character of Lost kind of misses the point.
The show was always about
Faith vs. Science
and then by extension Jack vs. Locke.
That remained a constant through out the entire series, you couldn't take locke out of the equation and have the same show.
A song of ice and Fire doesn't techinically have a main character, but I think Martin has said that the Stark's were his "heroes" or as close as you could get to them in a Martin world. But every character is important, and if you remove any of them the show or the books wouldn't really be the same.

I still think they had well more of a focus on certain characters than GOT. It certainly seems to flip from character to character moreso than heroes and GOT

I haven't read beyond SoS, but from the way it's playing out, it seems to me like the overall story is about Jon and Dany.

perhaps you should put that in spoiler tags PDH
It's not true anyways, there is no way that Jon Snow isn't a POV character in book 6, same with Dany.

A song of ice and fire..
Dany clearly represents fire, and Jon would be ice.. no?

I think he's referenced that title of the series as an epic poem or something in their world in one of the books I can't recall. that would make sense, however
As you know there are 3 dragons, which need 3 riders. It makes sense that there would be a third important character to the story as well.
