I read Aquaman #8 today, just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind.

Looked at the cover, saw that each book has "Johns" on the cover.

But when you read them, you'd think each book was written by two totally different people: One guy who can write, and one guy who can't. At all. As in, "completely overmatched by the industry in which he works."

Baffling. I'm absolutely baffled by two things: How Johns could be this bad, and why I'm reading it to know how bad it's been.

I'd wager Johns has to dumb down the script for Lee and none of Lee's fill-ins can make Lee look bad so it will have to be dumbed down for them as well. By comparison Reis, Mahnke, and Frank have no problem delivering a superior quality "Johns" product, I don't think it's coincidence.
Proof is imminent...

Yeah, he's got a big Scarecrow story planned. I'd be all in if my comic budget were a little beefier.

If an entire arc sucks I put it on 'notice' (so to speak) and if the second in a row sucks I usually drop it.

I know not every story will be a home run and it's unrealistic to expect it... but too many bad issues in a row will get me to drop a book.
