It was obvious and dumb, and Marvel marched right down that road proudly.

I wasn't surprised by him being Nick Fury's son as I figured that out early. However, the decision to turn him into a pastiche of Ultimate Fury was a curveball-and a bad one at that. The only thing I didn't mind was the Phil Coulson reveal as that was good in my books.

I feel dirty typing this, but I agree with Chris 1000% here. The central concept and raison d'être of this mini was beyond turrible...but the execution was quite good, to the point that I really enjoyed it despite myself.

It certainly ended up a better read than it's sister FI follow-up, The Fearless, which I wanted to love but which ended up being nothing but a really pretty blah of a story.

I like that they set Coulson up as Black Fury's Dum Dum-type buddy.

And as a guy who's always said more good characters are better than less and there's room for a Steve Cap and a Bucky Winter Soldier AND a Jack Monroe Nomad (damn you, Marvel), etc., I am perfectly fine with two Furys. This allows us to have Nick Sr. as the thoroughly awesome shadowmaster we've seen throughout Secret Warriors, etc., and to have Nick Jr. as the ass-kicking frontline superspy that his daddy was in the Steranko days without having to be burdened by the bureaucracy of actually having to run SHIELD (leave that headache to Hill, Daisy and Sr.)

Again, I didn't mind that part as Cheese( I mean Coulson) was always set up as Marcus's buddy.

I've got no problems with it. Yeah it's lame, but honestly, when I saw it over at the Ultimate U, I thought he could be Nick's son. Nick is the WW2 guy but the Sam Jackson version is his son. Nick Fury, like James Bond and Bruce Wayne... beds the ladies. All the ladies. :-D

Nick Fury being a hundred something or his son is the SHIELD guy... and Sam Jackson is awesome as Fury so... what's lamer?

Fair enough but as I said before, this would have worked better if Marcus had been explored as his own character that wasn't in his father's shadow. He and Coulson could still be a part of SHIELD as agents with his father still in the background and show how different Nick and his son were rather than just have him be the black version of him by taking on his name and that ridiculous costume which needs to be burned in a bon-fire( How did Steve manage to uphold his dignity by wearing that dumb attire is beyond me). They started out with a good concept that got sidelined by a dumb end-result.

This is why I'm ultimately fine with it. It works.

White Fury hasn't done much more than behind the scenes manipulating chess pieces on the board of the MU in a long time. Even in Secret Warriors.

Black Fury's role looks like it'll be far different.. more Winter Soldier-esque, if to be compared to anything.

Dude, it's been ONE issue.. you act like you already know exactly how everything will play out. His character didn't change, just because his appearance did.

I don't know why you're so hellbent on connecting his appearance and how he looks to his character. His character didn't change because he put on a different outfit and shaved his head, or lost an eye.

Steve Rogers was still Steve Rogers, whether he was wearing the Cap suit or the Super Soldier outfit.

Listen the end result might be okish, but they've literally just spat in the fact of the fans. Fuck logical progression, fuck a decent story reason, here's a long lost son, he is black and is now Nick Fury because we've got a film coming out. We don't care if it doesn't make logical sense, we don't care about telling an organic story that might take the characters to interesting paths, here is a black Nick Fury because we've got a film coming out.

It's ridiculous. Such an obvious "fuck off" to the fans. I genuinely am shocked that people are ok with this.
