Me too. But like chap said, it was good in-spite of itself. If judged on its own merits, rather than the fact that they're only doing this to line up the movies with the comics, it was a fun book. :smt102

I loved it on Cap. Other than the fact that I think Cap should've kept using it as an alternate or something.. I'm ok with giving it to Black Fury.

ok so we're mad that Marvel is acting like a business trying to make the less popular property (comics) appeal to the fans of the more popular property (the movie)

we are also up set that Marvel isn't catering to the fanboys who want everyone and everything to stay the same, or at least want comics to stay 'theirs' and not reflect the movies (because those fans aren't real fans and we liked comics before liking comics were cool)

I could have sworn yesterday we were mad at Marvel for catering to fanboys and not having new ideas and new characters and that if the Big Two had new characters then new readers would flock to the industry and save us all.

If that were the case then why change him from what he was which was just fine already? At least the good thing with Steve is that they gave him back his role as Cap and hopefully they will do the same by bringing back Nick Sr and Marcus goes back to being Marcus. At least that's what I hope.

Because the whole point of the mini was to get to this point. :?

I still don't see the correlation between his appearance and it somehow changing who he is as a person/character.

Honestly, I don't see them going backwards from this. I can see White Fury becoming more prominent again at some point.. because all it really takes is a writer being a big fan of his or something.. but this is progression folks. Whatever you may think of HOW they did it, they did it. So now instead of people whining about Marvel never doing anything to move forward, they can whine about HOW they progress things I guess. :smt102

Ya know... I'd be okay with that.

See, that's the thing. I honestly don't care if Marvel brings in Coulson and Nick Fury, Jr. They've got money to make; it's a business.

But in a few months, don't act like, all of a sudden, Original Nick's gotta go because readers are too stupid to understand how there's two of them. Acknowledge you did it for the obvious movie tie-in. Don't act like now, all of a sudden, New Nick has tremendous story potential and would only be held back by Original Nick's existence.

Again: Feed the movie people their shit. We get why you do it. But let the comics readers who support this industry through thick and thin have our shit.

Just because you let Mark Millar do whatever the hell he wanted to do in the Ultimate Universe doesn't mean that the 616 readers who never truly gave a shit about the Ultimate Universe should pay any kind of penalty.

This isn't a new idea.

Everything I've criticised comics for recently comes down to them being creatively bankrupt. This is 100% an example of this.

Look I get it, you like your superhero comics, but FFS sometimes the writers of them don't even try and hide their contempt for the readers. They obviously know readers will swallow anything.

A black aged character who calls himself Nick Fury is NOT a new character. Especially when he has no logical reason to call himself Nick Fury. This is just a cheap cash grab.

And I'm fed up of "Oh marvel are just acting like a business". If they had ANY business sense whatsoever, they currently wouldn't be selling 30,000 units of Wolverine or whatever state the industry is in.

Marvel movie's is a business. It's innovative, and it's being rewarded for risks. Marvel's comics department is an afterthought that is used to keep intellectual properties.

I personally am not mad about Marvel trying to cater to the movie fans but this whole thing felt very shoe-horned and forced and defies common logic. Are we supposed to believe that Marcus would just take the name of his absentee father who he never knew about until recently and and then be promoted to SHIELD head despite having no experience in the organization? Plus, having him lose his eye like his dad did and making him resemble the Ultimate version of his father was just unoriginal and silly. If they want us to accept Fury's bastard son then make us accept him as how he was presented without molding him into a replacement character for his dad. Why not follow upon Marcus staying as a ranger as Marvel doesn't have many books on characters serving on the frontlines and try to have him grow outside of his dad's shadow? That would get me hooked personally.
This debacle is as plausible as the Secret Invasion idiocy where Norman Osborn got promoted to Secretary Of State after shooting the Skrull Queen despite the fact he is an evil sociopath.

To be fair, it didn't really look too good for Eric O'Grady (the pervy white dude) a little while back, either...

draco x wrote:If anyone has been following the recent Battle Scars mini with that new character Marcus Johnson, it was revealed that he was the bastard child of Nick Fury. While I had no problem with that reveal as it was kind of predictable, the ending of the mini-series this week was another thing:
First off, Nick Fury is stripped of his infinity formula, making way for his son to take over in the most idiotic reveal ever: Apparently, Marcus loses his eye like his father did and then shaves his hair off and then becomes the new head of SHIELD under his true name Nick Fury Jr, resembling the Ultimate version of Nick Fury. Also, it is revealed that his best friend Cheese's real name is Phil Coulson( How ironic is that happening) and Marcus ( I mean Nick Jr) dons that crappy costume Steve Rogers wore in the Heroic Age.
Why is all of this stupid? Well let's see, why would Marcus take the name of his absentee father who was never present in his life up till now? Couldn't they have just left him as Marcus Johnson and have him try to be his own character instead of using a more established character's name? Also using the image of the Ultimate incarnation just reeks of cheap gimmickry given the fact that the movie is coming out this summer. Another gripe I have is why would SHIELD just put Marcus( I mean Nick Jr) in charge so quickly given the fact he has no SHIELD experience? Again if they had made him a SHIELD agent I could be ok with that but this is dumb all over. I liked the mini for the most part but this ending ruined it and I hate how Nick Fury Sr. is seemingly tossed out to pastures for a new guy in this manner. I personally hope that Nick Fury Sr. gets another infinite formula to put him back in action and that his son goes back to being Marcus Johnson with hair and two eyes.[blackout]

That's kinda stupid but pretty much exactly what I suspected would happen when they first announced this guy.

Exactly. I even knew from the cover of him with him losing one eye and him shaving his head where this was sadly going to go. I did like that his friend was the 616 Phil Coulson though.
