Just finished Battle Scars. Decent series, good characters.

In this instance, I don't think the motivations are as important as the end result. There's a lot of story potential with the new Fury and he doesn't impede the original Fury's current role in the universe at all.

take a lot of tanning pills like Soul Man? Going through a machine like Lois Lane in the 50s? "it's magic, bitch"?

Look I have agreed with you guys all along that I don't like the idea that "we need a black Fury" just to match the movie. But I see why Marvel's doing it. And I think good things can come from it. And honestly, they executed it about as well as you possibly could. Taken on its own, beyond the reasoning behind it, Battle Scars was a fun, well-written mini, that at least chose the least-stupid method of "replacement". There were no alternate dimensions, no magic, no clones, not even any LMDs. Just an illegitimate kid who was basically put in the SHIELD equivalent of witness protection from birth. Disagree if you want, but I buy that as perfectly logical

We will see how this pans out and maybe I will be wrong in my assessment. If this blows up in Marvel's faces then no suprise. I personally could care less about the new Fury being black as opposed to the old Fury being white as I just believe that we don't need a new Fury period.

Chances are this will be Rulk all over again but hopefully I will be wrong.

Rulk all over again? You mean a character that's sustained it's own series for over 50 issues? Yeah, the new Fury would be a total failure in that case.
