Here is the big change I would do in a reboot. Instead of being set in modern times with lots of flash backs, I would have the show play out chronologically. Have most of the first season deal with Connor MacLeod's origins. Then have three to five episode arks take place in different time periods.

In season 2 or 3 introduce Duncan MacLeod. Though they would do the Obiwan Anikin/Vader relationship. Duncan goes his own way after a few story arks, turns evil in a TV/DVD movie, and then comes back in season five in modern times for the final show down.

I like the idea of having both Duncan and Conner star in the series but I'd keep the flashbacks instead of having whole seasons set in the past. But on the other hand dramatic changes in the timeline could be cool like on Lost.

I would first start with a trilogy, basically the first movie stretch out.

First one ends with Conner becoming immortal.

Second one ends with the death or Ramiez

Third one the killing of Kurgan who would be played by Kane.

It wouldn't be about the final battle but a revenge movie, that way you can spin it off with other movies or even go TV, like with Tales from the Watchers.

I would introduce Duncan in the second movie as a kill, that Conner and Ramiez runs into, of course they know he is bound to be an immortal.

I would hint at Methos but not introduce him, like he trained Ramiez.

My thoughts at the moment:

Make it a TV show with LOST style flashbacks. The flashbacks would help us get to know the main characters and gradually reveal their backstories.

Do NOT fall into a fight of the week pattern. Some of the most interesting episodes involved something... different happening. Same thing here. Most of the shows would NOT end with a swordfight and a decapitation.

Take a Nolan like relaunch to it. Don't be afraid to try something new. We'd see some more aspects of the Quickenings (I.e. when they take a head, they might unknowlingly take on a new skill like understanding a foreign language or the sudden ability to use chopsticks), downsides of being immortal (what happens to an Immortal who gets fitted with a cement overcoat to sleep with the fishies?) And put a twist onto the continuity. Maybe we learn later on that Ramirez won that fight with the Kurgan, but taking in all that evil has given him a split personality, a killer alter ego he doesn't know about?

I'd take the best aspects of the movie and TV shows and put them in the show, twisting it a bit. I would also make it an ensemble show instead of focusing on the same dude every week.

I'd pick things up after Highlander should have ended.

Conner Macleod is an old man, with many children and grandchildren. He uses the Prize of Omniscience to run some kind of benevolent organization that has made the world a Utopia, but he's only mortal now and near death.

His children scramble to fill the void in his impending absence, but nobody will be able to run things smoothly without their father's supreme awareness. Ultimately, society will fall into relative chaos again. Conner is confident his kids will still be able to do a lot of good with his organization, but there's one son who isn't so sure. He is convinced the Prize needs to be reclaimed to save the world.

In his search to reclaim the Prize he'll earn more about the history of the Immortals and why they share this gift. The Prize is Omniscience, and its coveted by an ancient Evil. To keep it from this Evil, Omniscience is fragmented into Immortality, randomly selecting individuals with a recessive genetic predisposition.

So this great Evil, who supported the Kurgan the last time around, starts whispering in this Son's ear so to speak after he discovers the true nature of the Immortals. He convinces the Son to murder the Father in a ceremonial way so that the Prize becomes fractured into Immortality and therefore up for grabs again.

But the Son has been misled, he was told killing his father in this ceremonial way would transfer the Prize directly to him so that he could continue the Good Work. The ceremonial process allows the Great Evil to possess the Son completely, transforming him into another "Kurgan". Connor's children are the only new immortals at first, "new" random Immortals won't show up until after a full lunar cycle completes and a Global Quickening ushers in the new generation. So the trick is to kill Conner's children before the Global Quickening and regain the Prize.

The race is on, the Kurgan must kill the new Clan Macleod before the Global Quickening in order to quickly regain Prize without having to compete with thousands of Immortals all over the world. Can the Clan Macleod hold off the Kurgan long enough to ensure the greatest Evil ever known doesn't gain Omnipotence and therefore total dominion over mankind? :smt102
Proof is imminent...

Where did it jump the shark? Was it Highlander 2? The series? The last year of the series? The spinoff series? Highlander 3, 4 or 5? The cartoon series?

If you could fix it somehow (please, no downer suggestions like "Forget it. It's impossible")... how would you do it?

So apparently Hollywood's answer to that question... is to hire Ryan Renyolds. Mmmmmkay...?

Guess we'll how well it works. Like I said in the other thread, just to play Devil's advocate, who would you cast in a remake instead?

Highlander was an interesting little movie, everything that followed was shit and so this is just another low point to chart that downward progression, I guess.

I look forward to Ryan Reynolds launching a new Ladyhawke franchise next.

Thomas James was my pick at one, time.

Kane as Kurgan.

I'd blend it all together and reboot it for an HBO series and movies.

Colin (anime), Conner, Duncan and a woman MacLeod are all the stars.

I'd show that the Immortals are not the only supernatural walking around and that they were created for a reason. The series would cover each of the Clan MacLeod Immortals showing how they either get along, or don't at all. Each victory they have would show that they not only become physically stronger, but mentally more adept. I'd drop hints and falsehoods about the origins and purpose of the Immortals throughout it all. The movies would be like annuals in comics where they'd be big events, where the clan meet up and things go boom a lot.

I'd try to create greater contrast between Conner and Duncan so that they wouldn't seem so similar. The woman would be new, not like Amanda or other woman Immortals but be there to lower the sexism of the franchise. She's be the youngest too.
