It's a real shame that an attempt to finally get a John Carter movie on screen is tanking so badly
But it'sa weird it gets great reveiws but is losing millions.
Is it really tanking that badly or is it just in an impossible position due to it's cost?

Well...
Tough to say. It cost 250 million. SO even if it made 200 million, it's still losing a ton.

It does seem out of character for a company that is so characteristically tightfisted that they won't pay big name actors' going rates. I think they really painted themselves into a corner with that budget. Very few movies would make money back on that.

I hope it does better with the addition of home video sales. It really doesn't deserve the "biggest flop" tag.
JOHN CARTER Heads to Home VideoDisney brings to life an iconic hero, John Carter, in a visually stunning new world with heart-pounding action. The heroic epic adventure John Carter arrives on Disney Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray 3D, HD Digital, DVD and On-Demand June 5, 2012.

Have you seen the hideous box art? I doubt many people are going to buy it who haven't already seen it in theatres.

John Carter is a masterpiece. Probably the best movie of the year. There's no way that The Avengers movie can match this artistic achievement.
BTW, I'm kidding. I'm not going to watch either movie.

That's too bad, they're both very entertaining movies.

I agree with Salwen.
What will you watch? The Daredevil/Shawshank/42 redemption? (He plays the parts of both Red and Andy).

Generally, I don't watch summer blockbusters. They don't interest me. I'll probably watch the Batman movie with my nephew. But otherwise, I'll avoid the theaters until the fall, when movies with few or no explosions are screened.
