Marvels The Avengers Film, Rate It!

Postby TROY » Fri May 04, 2012 6:21 am

I know there are bound to be about million threads about this movie by the time I get home from work today. I just wanted to throw this poll up to gauge what most OHer's thought about the Avengers movie going experience. Try to refrain from spoilers until most people have seen the movie please.

Easily a perfect 10 for me. I am going on about 1 hour of sleep so I am gonna have to elaborate more on why I loved it so much later today after work. I will say that it is by far and away the best and my favorite of any and all comic book based movies that I have seen, I will go so far as to say it is possibly my favorite movie of all time. I don't think I have ever watched a movie that I wanted to jump up and scream and shout about the movie out of sheer excitement and enjoyment like I did while watching this movie. I plan to see it numerous more times in theaters and I rarely do that with any movie. I gotta go to work now but I will definitely write more about The Avengers later today!

I gave it an 8. The second act dragged a bit and pulls down the score. The third act was a solid 10. Best third act I've seen in a super hero movie.

10. The only thing I didn't like and it is a very small complaint, did anyone think there was too much knuckle dragging from the Hulk? Except for the action scenes most of the time he was hunched over. :smt017 I guess to fit him into the shot? :smt102

I have talked about how much I love this movie in a couple other threads already and I really don't want to drop to many spoilers in this thread as of yet. I think it is hilarious that one person actually gave it a 1 though

I am going to see the movie again tomorrow and then again on Wednesday. This movie is with out a doubt going to be the runaway hit movie of the summer!

I think a little bit more of a background for each character would have been nice. For those who are not comic fans or have not seen the other movies.
And Thor just seems to come out of nowhere. Everyone else's appearance is smoother.

He's not seen the movie. He hates Joss Whedon.

Not having seen the movie didn't stop you from declaring it the greatest film ever made, did it?

Spoilers

Enjoyable (and a true geek fest).

Hawkeye switching sides was unexpected but then the trailers all show him back on the good side at some time so that hole plot was kinda wasted. Same thing with Hulk catching Iron Man from the trailer - I knew it was coming all movie long and that something so near the end of the movie was shown before the movie came out made that scene less significant imo.

And I always groan whenever they do the forced Stan Lee appearance - something I wish they'd do at the beginning of the movie to get it over with as it pulls me right out of the movie experience every time.

I know I'm probably just supposed to sit back and ride with a comic book movie - but the death count of Manhattanites must have been staggering.

Acting - Downey was perfect (and I look forward to the Blu-ray to hear some lines that I missed because they came so fast and audience laughter muted them). Ruffalo was surprising - so very very good and worked well with/against everyone. Bana/Norton who? RDJ & Ruffalo really shined (probably because of the comedy they oozed - which should have come from Brer' Hawkeye but he had to be all dark and edgy :smt011 ).

The story worked for the movie but it really was a lame plot. Make the heroes not work together by getting them all together. Yeah - great one Loki.

And I guess Whedon didn't like the 'Avengers Initiative' as he tanked it between movies. This actually worked out all right though.

Another surprise - I would have thought that SHIELD lady with the black hair would have been the one to 'follow orders' and fly the nuke. (which begs the questions - who are these World Security Councilors that can order a nuclear attack on NYC? HUGE bonus points on Jenny Agutter :smt054 being one of them tho! )

As corny as it was, the words "to court death" being uttered as Thanos was intro'd was nice (and something only a geek would ever get).

I'm a huge Avengers fan. I have every issue from #1 up to Bendis taking over. Seeing these characters on screen - and seeing them together - was something I've been dreaming about for 35+ years.

This was a good film - but the book was better.

And saying that - this was a film and the film gets a 7.

One final thought - replace the words "King Kong" with "giant flying alien fish things" below...

I declared it the greatest superhero movie ever made. And I stand by the statement.

You're rating the movie despite not having seen it.

I just saw it in a D-Box theater of all things, the chairs vibrate and move.
I give it an 8. It did drag a bit in the 2nd act, I didn't like how generic the Council was and it was a bit popcorn in some spots. I think I'm not sure that I spotted a technical error: after Thor get's tricked into the cage they were holding Loki in, Loki all of a sudden has his spear in his hand when it had been up in Banner's lab.

Ruffalo did a great job, I could see him scoring a solo feature out of this easily.
.

All in all a fun flick, it'll be very interesting to see how Batman competes with it.
