In a 1 to 10 scale I give it a AWESOME.
Seriously most fun I had at the movies since watching the(original) Star Wars movies for the first time.

I give it an 8. It did drag a bit in the 2nd act, I didn't like how generic the Council was and it was a bit popcorn in some spots. I think I'm not sure that I spotted a technical error: after Thor get's tricked into the cage they were holding Loki in, Loki all of a sudden has his spear in his hand when it had been up in Banner's lab.

Ruffalo did a great job, I could see him scoring a solo feature out of this easily.
.

All in all a fun flick, it'll be very interesting to see how Batman competes with it.

I was just saying the same exact thing.
Though I mentioned Empire specifically.

Seeing The Avengers this evening was the most fun I've had at a movie theater in a long time.

And you know what.. for all the hate Whedon gets sometime, the guy really absolutely nailed it.

The character moments.. the action.. the quips.. the little easter eggs and references..

You could absolutely tell it was made by a fanboy, for the fanboys.

Unlike most comic movies, which cater to a larger audience.. I really feel like this was made for us, primarily.

I have not seen the movie, but this now joins Superman, Superman II, Batman, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Blade, Spider-Man, X2, Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins, Iron Man, and The Dark Knight, in the comic-book-movies-I-have-heard-people-say-are-the-best-ever category.

I love Whedon and I love that he was the one that made this movie, like you said, for us the real fans.

Although it takes a while to hit its stride, once it does Marvel's The Avengers is a razzle-dazzle, rip-roaring entertainment. Count on The Hulk. Once he erupts, The Avengers soars across the screen with ferocity and style.

That's really funny. I started by saying Star Wars to my husband and then corrected myself and said Empire specifically.

Joss Whedon and the cast and crew deserve a well respectful round of applause for this movie. They did, in one movie, what Didio and Johns has been trying to do for almost ten years. Take comics back to that beautiful silver age.

I haven't had that much fun at a movie in forever. Yeah there were a few issues I had as well with it, but the were so tiny compared to the grand scope of the film that I really don't care about them at the moment.

The plot was exactly what it was supposed to be: bring the worlds first known superheroes together to stop the worlds first alien invasion. Sounds like a comic book story to me! When the action wasn't in high gear I sat there and marveled at how well the actors enveloped their characters. I was blown away at how much I even enjoyed Chris Evan's performance as Cap in this movie much more than his own.

Ending was great. All three of them. Actually the final ending was probably my favorite.

Now just cause this is the Outhouse and heaven forbid someone gushes over something, I'll tell you the few things that chipped away at the real "fanboy" inside of me:

Hawkeye's character was the weakest for me since it wasn't the Hawkeye I grew up with. Thor's entrance was sudden and Loki's throwaway comment "Father must have used a lot of dark magic to get you here" was thrown away and should have been touched on a smidgen more. What I was most disappointed in was the first ending. This was a cleverly crafted take on the Avengers Golden and Silver Ages so having to hear the tired cliche' of: "They are a danger to us" crap was irritating. I would have rather seen them get the adoration they received in the first few decades of their book. (For the most part at least).

This movie ties with me as best superhero movie of all time. The reason for the tie is that I can't really compare The Avengers with Batman: The Dark Knight since they are two totally different sub-genre's.
