I no longer hate Hawkeye.

Postby Strict31 » Sat May 05, 2012 9:22 pm

I went to see Avengers with my best friend and his young son. Hawkeye flipped that young boy's wig. He comes out making motions like he's drawing a bow and firing it. He didn't even know who in the fuck Hawkeye was before the movie (he probably would have hated him if he did).

But if Hawkeye can capture the imagination of a kid like that, then the character has done his job. Sorry Bubba.

Yeah there was a kid sitting near me in the theater today that couldn't have been more than 5-6 years old and he kept making the bow and arrow shooting motions during the fight scenes along with Hawkeye, it was pretty damn cool.

Hell, I still hate 616 hawkeye, but Avengers Hawkeye was the absolute tits... I fricking loved his "clicker" bow and quiver.... that shit was fucking awesome...

Now I honestly want to see a Black Widow and Hawkeye movie more than I want to see sequels to any of the other individuals flicks...

Apparently, the actor's grasp of archery was really poor.

But he was pretty cool in the film. That quiver looked awesome.

I can't remember what interview it was, but even he said because of the amount of CGI involved with his character not a lot of time was spent on technique because it just wasn't needed and the cost of sending him through training was unjustifiable and he was sure that true archers were going to pick apart his form.

Was it Hawkeye or Archery built on Hunger Games and the Brave trailer?

The kid never saw Hunger Games because, despite the fact his mother loved the books, ain't no way on earth she's gonna let her kid read or see some shit about kids being killed for sport.

And by the time the Brave trailer finally came on, he was well and truly pissed off with the concept of previews. His interest in it did not survive beyond "from the makers of Wall-E". This is probably because that particular trailer focused on a bunch of shit little boys would find boring. Her cool archery skills took a back seat to family humor bullshit, in other words. Since it was a Pixar movie that did not feature talking cars, talking toys, talking sharks, robots (that sorta talk) or a rat that cooks, I'm not even sure Brave is anywhere on the kid's radar.

It's also probably because, before we had to sit through a half hour of previews, we had to sit through a half hour of goddamn advertisements and near constant reminders to turn your cell phones the fuck off. This left him...ah...impatient, shall we say.

If I had given the boy one of my knives, he could have easily stabbed a path of rage right through the crowd and the wall to the projection booth.

I think it's funny a few archery lessons were deemed too expensive.

So then why not cast the role with some hot blonde built stud who looked more like the comic book version of Hawkeye ? :P

Actually interesting article. Now I wonder what he thought of Brave and the Hunger Games.

Probably more about Renner's time rather than the expense of lessons or something like that in Hollywood accounting.
