I kinda wish Hawkeye was a little bit more like his Ultimates version in that he used guns. It would have made more sense in facing the alien invasion thing.

After all, in Thor, it didn't seem as if he was opposed to guns as he reached for one, but seemed to rather prefer the bow. It would also make sense seeing as how he's an agent of SHIELD that he wouldn't just use a bow and arrow. It didn't bother me in the film at all, but something I'd like to see added to the character in the future.

And of course there was him running out of arrows. So some kind of backup isn't unjustified.

Probably more about Renner's time rather than the expense of lessons or something like that in Hollywood accounting.

The actors I think are most talented are the ones who display the ability to want to learn some of what their character would know or do as a matter of course, because they know that details matter. Not the lazy, overpaid kind who talk in interviews about letting the CGI do all the work for them.

I don't disagree.

I always liked seeing in the making of the Matrix that they brought in experts that taught the actors how to hold and fire guns. I hate seeing movies where someone fires a gun where it looks like they either wouldn't hit anything, or hurt themselves doing it.

Yeah, the gun thing always bothers me a little too.

I'm not knocking the Avengers movie which I haven't seen yet, I just would think anyone portraying the best archer in the world would just naturally want to look more or less correct doing it. I don't actually know Renner from Adam, I assume he delivers one-liners with the best of them but have no idea what sort of actor he is, but I did assume there would naturally be a technical advisor on-set who was trained in archery, in fact I expected to see promo interviews like, "The real life Hawkeye talks about teaching Jeremy Renner which side of an arrow is the sharpey end" or something like that. But this makes it look like he wasn't even given a first lesson, which does seem a bit ridiculous to me.

Yeah, but I don't think it's like the gun thing. Even someone not really into guns can notice bad form.

I gotta say Renner's form wasn't anywhere near an issue in the movie. It's interesting to see it from an archer's perspective, but I doubt it would be noticeable to anyone who is not an archer themself.

The kid never saw Hunger Games because, despite the fact his mother loved the books, ain't no way on earth she's gonna let her kid read or see some shit about kids being killed for sport.

And by the time the Brave trailer finally came on, he was well and truly pissed off with the concept of previews. His interest in it did not survive beyond "from the makers of Wall-E". This is probably because that particular trailer focused on a bunch of shit little boys would find boring. Her cool archery skills took a back seat to family humor bullshit, in other words. Since it was a Pixar movie that did not feature talking cars, talking toys, talking sharks, robots (that sorta talk) or a rat that cooks, I'm not even sure Brave is anywhere on the kid's radar.

It's also probably because, before we had to sit through a half hour of previews, we had to sit through a half hour of goddamn advertisements and near constant reminders to turn your cell phones the fuck off. This left him...ah...impatient, shall we say.

If I had given the boy one of my knives, he could have easily stabbed a path of rage right through the crowd and the wall to the projection booth.

So you're saying it was Hawkeye then? :P

Frankly,I was to damn busy having a good time to even care about the actor playing Hawkeye archery skills or lack thereof.

Yeah...you...you really shouldn't do that in a crowded public theater, no matter how much you like the Avengers. :|
