Red Lanterns #9 -- some spoilers

Postby IvCNuB4 » Sun May 06, 2012 2:55 pm

Continuing right from last issue, Bleez and her rebel RL team are in space on their own vengeance missions and still plotting to overthrow Atrocitus. Part of this ties into this month's Stormwatch #9. Back on Ysmault the other Red Lanterns are still confronting the newest (and first Earth member) RL, Rankorr, believing he is the one who attacked Atrocitus and is poisoning them. His uniqueness is obvious since he can speak and as Zilius Zox points out: "Red Lanterns.. don't make constructs". Bleez and her team arrive and engage in a brief napalm-spewing battle which is halted as the planet itself starts it's own death-thralls, caused in part by the Blood Ocean erupting and spewing. Since Red Lanterns are unable to remove their rings, and their rings are fed by the now-poisoned Red Central Power Battery, Atrocitus decrees that they must abandon Ysmault unless they can unmask the real enemy behind all this. If they can find out who had Abysmus poison the battery and how, they may be able to cure it and themselves. They banter about some theories on who, even suggesting Invictus, seen in New Guardians # 5-7. Bleez's theory is that it's the Star Sapphires and takes her team to confront them, while Atrocitus' group stays to seek out Abysmus.

It's becoming clear that the threads of a larger tapestry are starting to pull together between all the Corps, and some other DC titles. Since each of the color Corps are experiencing some type of threat to their survival, this may all be leading into the next GL event "The Third Army". I'm just wondering if after that we may see some down-sizing, if not a combining of, the various color Corps.
