I would describe them as more macabre than dark.

Billy was never dark, and never a dick.

The fact that there really wasn't an attempt to tie Legion into the DCnU was annoying enough. That Levitz failed to use the opportunity of Flashpoint and tweak the stuff surrounding the team than needed to be tweaked (all the mixed-up continuity issues that have popped up since The Lightning Saga that Johns was responsible for), and de-age the team back to the late teens-early 20's where it could truly be considered a "Young Justice" title. Or maybe fleshing out the 31st century a little more and explaining why things aren't as technologically advanced as they should be for a society 1000 years in the future.

Just to name a few.

It's sad to see that Legion is not the title it could be.

I know. Instead, we get the Dominators shoved down our throats. At least when Levitz did it with the Khunds, they were moderately interesting.

Well, at least you won't see the Legionnaires bragging about their cell phones, now that's technology you wouldn't hope to see not even in the 40th century.

I think that the usual sci-fi setting was great 50 or 60 years ago, but now writers must come up with new stuff or else it all feels... old.

I'm pretty sure the flight rings double as communication devices. Those rings are the Legion's friggin' Swiss Army Knives.

One of the neo-classic Legion's problems is that the tech doesn't seem that more advanced than the 21K DCU. Heck, there are places where it seems that the 21k DCU is more advanced than the Legion's 31K.

That's where a good little galactic catastrophe/war/singularity event comes it. It could be used to explain why things don't seem as advanced as they should.

Yes, the ring provides communication, translates alien languages and also shields them from the vacuum of space and that kind stuff.

There are ways to explain why they are so behind technology wise. Like the Magic Wars (right before the 5YG Legion), in which technology fails throughout the galaxy.

The less said about the Magic Wars the better! :D

A Singularity event of some sort would probably be the more logical thing, since it seems the 31k does have a considerable lack of serious A.I.'s. If there wasn't, why would Brainy need to mess around and mess with something like Computo in the first place?

Well Computo made perfect sense in the 60s.
For the record, I think Levitz was still in good shape when he wrote Magic Wars.

It was obvious that the series was going into a darker, more adult direction after Superboy's death and Giffen's return after #50. It wasn't getting any better, though.

And the numbers keep dropping and dropping.
94 - THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES
03/2007: --
03/2008: LoSH #40 -- 30,377
---------------------------------------
03/2011: LoSH #11 -- 23,667 (- 0.3%)
04/2011: LoSH #12 -- 23,419 (- 1.1%)
05/2011: LoSH #13 -- 23,105 (- 1.3%)
06/2011: LoSH #14 -- 22,600 (- 2.2%)
07/2011: LoSH #15 -- 21,788 (- 3.6%)
08/2011: LoSH #16 -- 21,373 (- 1.9%)
09/2011: LoSH #1 -- 50,402 (+135.8%) [58,325]
10/2011: LoSH #2 -- 47,227 (- 6.3%)
11/2011: LoSH #3 -- 34,979 (- 25.9%)
12/2011: LoSH #4 -- 27,832 (- 20.4%)
01/2012: LoSH #5 -- 25,624 (- 7.9%)
02/2012: LoSH #6 -- 23,428 (- 8.6%)
03/2012: LoSH #7 -- 21,894 (- 6.6%)
-----------------
6 months: - 56.6%
1 year : - 7.5%
5 years : - 27.9%

Two more “New 52″ titles that keep shedding readers. The six-month drop on Legion is particularly dire.

Boy, bringing the "real" Legion back has been a huge f**king success hasn't it? Every issue has seen at least a 6% drop off from the previous issue since #1.

This isn't a flop. This is an abortion.

Oh, and Legion Lost's numbers are even worse.

112 - LEGION LOST
09/2011: Legion Lost #1 -- 46,362 [54,588]
10/2011: Legion Lost #2 -- 42,650 (- 8.0%)
11/2011: Legion Lost #3 -- 31,226 (-26.8%)
12/2011: Legion Lost #4 -- 24,020 (-23.1%)
01/2012: Legion Lost #5 -- 21,549 (-10.3%)
02/2012: Legion Lost #6 -- 19,447 (- 9.8%)
03/2012: Legion Lost #7 -- 18,214 (- 6.3%)
----------------
6 months: -60.7%

What a brilliant frakin idea DC had there.

I'm not quite that hopeful. Legion was heading southward before Nu52. Unless Giffen comes back as reported and gives the title a little bump, I don't see sales getting any higher.
