The whole point of Veidts plan was to prevent global catastrophe, using America's greatest weapon on every nation on the planet is going to create a huge problem. and you can believe that no one in those other countries would believe that the attack on america was actually real.

Uh, what?

1. Why would any other country no believe the attack on America? I know there are conspiracy theorists, but you really think they would believe that the US government would wipe out its own cities and MILLIONS of people?

2. Why would a giant squid prevent people from attacking America any more than Manhattan attacking everyone? IN the book, the squid only hit NYC. No other countries were directly affected.

1. Because the movie took place in the pre-internet days. And people will only see what their government tells them. You think soviet Russia was super open with it's people or communist china?

2. Because it is indicative of an alien attack, an attack that wiped out millions of people in an afternoon. Everyone would be crapping themselves in fear after that.

1. So you think Soviet Russia and China WANTED Nuclear war? Because that's basically the only other option. If they attack, America attacks and it's mutually assured destruction. You get that right?

2. But Dr. Manhattan nuking 50 million people worldwide won't scare the fuck out of them? Dude, you're being silly.

1. But America didn't attack. I don't know what's so hard to understand here. It is presented quite clearly that Dr. Manhattan loses it. Add to that, he attacked American CITIES and killed millions of Americans. So given that. You know America was attacked as well, so you attack anyway KNOWING that the response will wipe you out. That makes no sense whatsoever.

2. YOu present no reason why. Why would the squid scare them into working with America (when it is the more likely conspiracy theory) and Manhattan scare them into attacking America?

As I've said several times, when an american weapon attacks several countries, they aren't really going to care that america was attacked too. America is responsible. And in the entire world vs. America, I'm sorry to say but we'd probably lose without completley destroying the world in the process.

Which is ultimately what would happen, so why would they attack now that there's a threat to the whole world? The option is global destruction or working together to defend against Dr. Manhattan.

If you think that they would prefer to end it all, then ok.

I don't see it, and I don't see how it's any more impausible than the squid monster being a deterent.
