Day 128.
Today I watched ROH on SBG from last Saturday. This was a great "go-home" show that did a superbly effective job of selling Saturday's iPPV.
The opener was Tommasso Ciampa vs. Matt Tavern. Tavern had a breakout match a month ago with Mondo and Ciampa is the undefeated guy in ROH. Ciampa has recently come into his own as a worker and developed into a hell of a talent. This match is excellent as you go in expecting it to be a squash, and it's not. And the thing is, Ciampa is competent enough that he doesn't suffer from selling or working a longer match, so the Goldberg-stigma won't hurt him. Ciampa wins, of course.
There's a great promo backstage with the House of Truth. Rhino really meshes in well here.
Next match is Mike Mondo vs. TJ Perkins and it's a bit of a snoozer. The real deal here is the set-up for the six-man on Saturday with TJ/ANX vs Mondo/Young Bucks. Inside ROH does a great job of hyping all of the matches, featuring some really good promos from the Briscoes, Mike Bennett, etc.
The main event is a good-ish match with Kyle O'Reilly vs. Kevin Steen. Steen wins, naturally, but the big stuff comes in the post-match segment with the beatdown, Davey making the save, the face-off, etc. Davey cuts a decent promo to end the show.
Match of the Day goes to Tomasso Ciampa vs. Matt Tavern.
