James Cameron: Would you rather he never existed?

Postby MrBlack » Tue May 08, 2012 3:41 pm

Let's say a tweaked out genie comes to you and offers to grant a very specific wish: You can wish that James Cameron never existed.

This means no Titanic and no Avatar. They never existed and never will exist.

It also means no Terminator, no Terminator 2, no Aliens, no Abyss, no True Lies, and Cameron didn't defeat Cthulu at the bottom of Challenger Deep, thus averting the Mayan Apocalypse.

What do you do? Do Cameron's good movies outweigh his bad ones?

EDIT: Now with poll!

Who cares if he has lost his way and only wants to make more crappy Avatar related stuff?

That doesn't make any of his older movies less enjoyable. I can choose to not watch his terrible future movies and just enjoy the older stuff.

I don't know why anyone would want him to not exist or anything crazy like that.

I guess it just doesn't matter that much to me. Besides, his interest in deep sea exploration has extended being one baleful movie:

Perhaps he would be sent to another dimension where he could make Avatar movies to his heart's content with an unlimited budget and a captive audience.

I really don't care much about his later work myself. I just thought it would be an interesting question to ask given how much hate has been directed at him for Avatar. It's not meant to be at all serious (see the Cthulu bit).

No big loss. He took Alien and made it a formula action movie.

There would still be an Alien movie and probably an Aliens with a different director. That leaves the Terminator films and Predator that I care about. I can live without them.

No, I loved his early movies. If he doesn't wanna make any more, focusing instead on building his undersea paradise while making sequels to a movie that doesn't NEED sequels, that's no skin off my banana....

That's like saying since Sean Connery retired, and prefers not to make any more movies, do we wish he'd never existed? Fuck that, I don't want to give up Bond. We NEED James Bond, and Henry Jones Sr. :P

Or it could mean there was a big-budget Transformers... Directed by Uwe Boll.

Well that's a bit extreme.

Don't care for him personally but other than Mark Chapman and Hitler I can't think of anyone I would want to wish out of existance.

Okay... maybe women...

Your poll is confusing, because your thread title asks if you would want to erase cameron from existence, while your poll asks if he should exist.

Just because I don't know how to spell the language of some tiny African nation doesn't mean that I'm wrong in thinking that your attitude towards women is 100% wrong. Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.
