The article is arguing that the Marvel Herc, like the mythical one, should come out (or confirm, it mentions the many hints dropped the last few years) as bisexual not exclusively homo or hetero. That's actually the argument for many characters.

I don't have a problem with any of these other than Cap- that seems to be the real stretch made for controversy's sake (notice it's last on the list as well)

Meh, I only count myself as an "oh cool, it's a cameo by Spoiler" type of Stephanie Brown fan, so I wouldn't normally be bothered by the comment. I just think forgetting Tim Drake's relationship with her, in favor of an article that is already grasping at at straws, may upset some of her more serious fans that are already riled up.

  • Wonder Woman
  • Hercules
  • Catman
  • Shrinking Violet and Lightning Lass
  • Steel Sterling (Who?)
  • Storm
  • Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy
  • Gambit
  • Tim Drake
  • Captain America

More controversy stirring from CA, as they put the gay cat amongst the gay pigeons. It seems that sexuality is their new cause celebre after their readership turned on them after the whole sexism thing.

Some of these make sense, Hercules, Harley and Ivy and the two Legion characters have all been hinted at, but the likes of Tim Drake and Captain America being gay is just fanfic nonsense. It's fun to crack jokes about Tim being more upset about Superboy's death than Wonder Girl, but anything more than that is silly.

Also, I'm surprised Iceman isn't on this list, but I think my thread on that subject closed the book on that theory.

I agree. With everything you said.

Who has been engaged in heterosexual relationships for 50 years worth of stories, who has never had any indication that he was conflicted with that fact and never expressed any kind of physical desire towards another man.

But I guess they could make him come out in an effort to sell books or something.

I'd love it if John Walker came out.

Well considering in pre Zero Hour continuity, Lightning Lass and Shrinking Violet were shown to be a couple, it's not like they're in the closet at all.

And wasn't there that Justice League Quarterly where all of the women are in a spa together when Wonder Woman makes a lesbian joke about Paradise Island.

But to touch on something someone else said "We've been privy to these characters' thoughts for like 40 years ..." true, but you also have to realize we've been privy to these characters thoughts for like 40 years. Times have changed a lot. There's no way they would have ever explicitly referenced anything of such "questionable" behavior in the early days of most of these characters' existence. And any such mentions nowadays would instantly be met with a chorus of "Well, if that's true, how come we didn't hear about it before?!?!" Because the character was created in the 60's and you couldn't get away with any damn thing, let alone making a character a homosexual!

Hell, it's only in the last 10 years or so that one could really do much of anything with the topic of homosexuality in comics.

I just think it's faulty reasoning. I don't think we should just be gaying up every character left and right, but even just going by percentages, there would likely be a few LGBT's among even major characters. So ...it's not out of the question entirely.

But judging by most writers, they'd just fuck it up and set us back 30 years.

Then create new gay characters, don't go pissing on 50 years of continuity because Stan the Man couldn't make ice man a friend of dorothy in 1963.

1) Joke.

2) The whole 'been around for # years' thing, is again, bullshit reasoning (no offense.) I mean just 15 years ago, people were seriously boycotting TV shows for having gay characters on them. You think that you could just go around throwing homosexual innuendo around willy-nilly? Not saying that they should, but it's silly to make the argument.

3) It was a joke. I really don't care what Steve Rogers' orientation is. Doesn't make him any less or more of Captain America than he already is.
