I don't understand how anyone could cry at that movie. They say right at the start that she dies and he ends up alone.
That's the thing, though. Despite the very first line of the movie telling us she dies, the final act was so well done up until when she finally dies. Doesn't matter that we know it's gonna happen, but the emotional jolt with us falling for the character and hoping for her love with the writer was well done enough for us to get invested to the point of hating that the ending is actually happening.
