DC Comics' New 52 has brought plenty of changes to its superpowered characters, but the publisher's policy has been not to change the sexual orientations of any existing characters. That's about to change, however, as DC co-publisher Dan DiDio announces plans to reintroduce an established character as gay.

Last year, DiDio told The Advocate that DC's plans were to introduce new gay characters rather than change the orientation of established characters. However, when asked about that policy at this weekend's Kapow! convention in London, DiDio said that plans had changed, and that a previously established DC character would be introduced in the New 52 universe as gay. DiDio told the audience that the character would become "one of our most prominent gay characters."

The question is: who will it be? It sounds like the character will be one who hasn't yet appeared in the New 52 (so that image above probably won't pan out). Will anyone's slashfic dreams pan out? And will the newly homosexual character be a hero or a villain?

Watch it be either Superman or Batman. Maybe Wonder Woman, more given the present Amazon legend connections. :roll:

I'll get crap for this, but I always thought Dick was the most likely member of the Bat family to one day come out.

I have no issues with gay characters when the stories are well done and well written and being gay serves a purpose.

Having a character come out as gay just as a sales ploy is ridiculous.

Batman gets enough crap with his penchant for leading young brightly dressed boys into battle so I hope they don't make Bruce or any Robin gay. It would be a really stupid move.

Wonder Woman is my best guess at this point. In her title, it seems like there have been subtle hints to the nature of her feelings towards Zola plus the awkward situation going on with her and Steve Trevor in Justice League. Plus, Wonder Woman certainly would be a very prominent character and changing her sexual orientation wouldn't be a huge leap that would upset the masses.

I disagree. I think a story can be a sales ploy and still be well done and a good move in the long run.

This. It's the safest (America seems to have a problem hating hot lesbians) and most sensical option.
