Even if you take out the hype around Ledger's death... Dark Knight was The Joker. People KNOW the Joker. This is Bane, some dude in a mask. Mainstream people don't know who that is.

No, it doesn't come close to Avengers' BO take.

I'll say it'll do very similar numbers for bums in seats then. Perhaps slightly better than Avengers. No chance of matching it's BO.

Not even gonna come close to what Dark Knight did let alone what Avengers has done. Summer movies box office tend to slow down as the summer goes on and this movie is coming out toward the end of July, not the beginning of the box office blockbuster season, not even in the middle Amazing Spider-Man has the 4th of July weekend covered. Dark Knight Rises will do decent to above average numbers nothing spectacular.

I agree. I'm a fan of the movies but the avengers is in no danger from the bat movie
The movie result will mirror the comics. Dc just can't keep up to marvel these days.
And the last movie had the real life story fueling interest to boot

No I'm serious, among all my friends, co workers, associates, etc, all of them from varying degrees of comics fan to non comics fan have little to no interest in seeing this movie and that is what I am gauging my statement on. Most people that I have talked to have either no idea who Bane is or think he is one of the lamest of Batman's foes. Also they have all said they find the trailers for the movie thus far very bland and boring and have seen nothing that makes them want to rush out and see the movie, like they did with Dark Knight when Heath Ledger died.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely want to see the Dark Knight Rises but I just can't get that excited about it. I know it will be good and I know that I will enjoy it but I don't even know that I will want to go see it opening week. With Prometheus, I literally can not wait to see that movie! I will be there opening day.

It's going to do really well. It's going to be one of the top grossing movies of the year, definitely top ten and probably top 5, but it's going to be less than The Dark Knight and nothing this year is going to come close to The Avengers in box office results, not Twilight, not The Hobbit, not Brave, nothing.

The movie is on pace to be the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time. Even a huge blockbuster like The Hunger Games was something it passed in just a few weeks (both worldwide and in the US). The Avengers was a movie that did insane numbers that you don't see very often.

Meanwhile, despite this being the finale for Nolan and company, as others have said The Dark Knight had The Joker who is nearly as popular of a character as Batman, and it had the big controversy of Ledger dying before it came out. Those two things drove the movie to a much higher level than it would have been otherwise (especially the use of The Joker), while this movie doesn't have either of those things. It will do really really well, but not Dark Knight levels, and certainly not Avengers levels.
