Am I a bad person for not giving a shit about Northstar getting married? It seems like everyone is making such a huge deal about this. People I know who don't read comics are asking me about it because they saw it on the news and I'm starting to see it every where. What's the big deal? Gays get married. So what!?
Just like in Avengers: Children's Crusade, when Billy and Tommy shared a kiss. So what!? People and gays kiss!
As a indy graphic novel writer I have a gay couple in one of my books.

I just don't see the big deal...

I don't see the big deal either because I've been following comics for years, but you have to realize that it's not an "established reality" for most people. This is news to those "not in the know."

Yeah, in the end, the big news announcement around this is for the non-comic book readers, not guys like us that have been reading for years.

its news because its the first gay superhero to marry. And gay marriage/gay rights are a BIG topic right now. Especially after Obama declaring (finally) that he supports gay people marrying..

Yeah, it's not about them being gay, it's about gay people getting married. That's something that's still not legal for the vast majority of the states. It's kind of hard not to understand the real-world relevance and interest.

But Northstar? Really? Way to softball the topic. Who the hell knows who he is outside of the already established reading base? Now if they came out and said that Iron Man was marrying his boyfriend, that makes an impact. And then the Internet would immolate under the burning flames of outraged comic fans...

Thus cannot be as forced as the comic where Northstar came out if the closet.

I remember in Asgardian Wars where Rogue discovered he was gay, that was well written. His coming out issue, that was just bad.

Still, happy they are doing this.

Northstar is a great character, but he could've gotten married in Canada years ago.

well Northstar also shares the distinction of being Marvel's first openly gay superhero. So it makes sense for it to be him.

Hey I like Alpha Flight. I wish it would get a successful series one of these days (once they stop portraying it as "generic super team #25762" set in Canada.)
