Who owns the movie rights to Blade?

Postby Doc Jon » Tue May 29, 2012 11:40 pm

And why haven't we gotten a new movie?

Blade most certainly started the comic book movie revolution. Now, the third movie was a piece of shit, but that had a lot to do with Goyer being a complete fucking hack behind the camera and having some kind of man-love with Ryan Reynolds.

With the popularity of vampires and zombies and such, this property is a fucking no-brainer.

Maybe they're waiting to get the last films out of public memory...

War ZOne was a decent enough film, but I maintain it's time to get the Punisher into more superheroey territory.
I still think Blade would work even better today. Make it more than just vampires and you could have a sick franchise.

I dunno about that... outside of fanboys who knew Blade was a Marvel comic character from the 1970's who last had a series in the '90s?

I'd argue X-Men was the real Renaissance of comic movies. It came out July 13, 2000... Blade was released first, in August 1998, but who knew it was based on a comic? X-Men had comics, a cartoon series and merchandise behind it.

Blade would be awesome, but I think Wesley Snipes is in jail. He is also old.

A reboot might work.

Most people who watched the 90s Spider-man cartoon knew who Blade was.

That's why I went to see it in the theatre.

Honestly, I think that's part of the point.

If Blade, an unknown comic character with no real fanbase, could be a successful franchise, then bigger properties could be a success.

Ah, thanks.

I guess they are waiting until the concepts feel fresh again.

I think when the Iron Man/Cap/Thor/Avengers movies all have trilogies done is when they will consider going back to Punisher and Blade.

True, and probably a good idea.

They also have the tv stuff going, so there's no point in flooding the market.
