There really isn't a lot that I can say about this book because nothing really happened. Yes, we get the sense that there is some impending doom because the Cybermen have teamed up with the Borg but if the Federation can handle the Borg, they should be able to deal with the Cybermen. I wish they would have given us a little something extra. What exactly is it about this alliance between Cybermen and the Borg that is so foreboding? Are the Cybermen upgrading the Borg?

As far the parts of the story pertaining to the Doctor are concerned, I liked it. It felt very much like I was watching the beginning of an episode of Doctor Who. Yes, it opens on the Doctor already in action but that's the fun of it. The Doctor just keeps running from one problem to the next, sometimes without giving himself or his companions a moment to catch their breath. I am curious to see how or if the green crystal that the Doctor nonchalantly handed off to Rory will come back into play and seeing the Doctor, Amy, and Rory appear in the middle of a Holodeck simulation was very intriguing. Does the Doctor know that his surroundings aren't real? How will the crew of the Enterprise react to having 3 strangers and a blue box crash their party?

Art wise, I was really torn. I liked the artistic style that was chosen but at times I felt that it wasn't clear enough. Maybe it will get better in the next issue when they hopefully introduce more of the crew of the Enterprise.

All things considered, it was a fun but extremely quick read. I am intrigued and I will definitely pick up the next issue. I will give Star Trek/Doctor Who: Assimilation a score of 7 out of 10.

Ha! Next week is the start of Before Watchmen and it's my pick, I'll give you three guesses what it's going to be. First person to get it right gets a bonus point on their review tally. Check back Friday to see what we'll be reading next week.

Why the hell did someone buy a copy for $20, let alone where you told me. Baffling.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but no.

They were lucky to get it at that price! The B variant went for more than $20.

But I wonder about that too sometimes. In this case, I like to think maybe it's a kid...he's been in a wheelchair all his life, but the nearest LCS isn't handicapped-accessible because he lives in a Red State. Or something.

It helps me sleep better at night. Or during the afternoon, whenever. :smt102

Even if there was a new issue next week it would be mid-arc, so no.

Also, the lack of digital distribution for PoA would make me pick something else.

I am not picking Spawn, but I do like that Savage Dragon homage cover.

Hells to the no. Before Watchmen is crass and ugly and I want no part of it.

Instead I'm picking...

INSUFFERABLE WEEKS 1-6

Artist: Peter Krause

What happens when you’re a crimefighter and your sidekick grows up to be an arrogant, ungrateful douchebag? What on Earth could draw the two of you back together again?

Wholly creator owned and distributed. The most opposite of Before Watchmen selection I could come up with.

6 weeks in should be more than enough story content so far to make it reviewable in both terms of story and distribution method. I've been reading it weekly and it's been typical Mark Waid goodness so far.
