I was very pleased today to be notified of this story. One Million Moms, the group that was attempting to organize a protest and letter-writing campaign against Marvel Comics in order to prevent Marvel from showing a same sex wedding in Astonishing X-Men #51 has "disappeared off facebook" after comic book fans rallied to ridicule the group. The New Civil Rights Movement reports:

Earlier today administrators of the One Million Moms Facebook site posted a "warning" about Green Lantern being rebooted as gay, which they quickly pulled when over one hundred pro-gay comments flooded the post. Subsequently, they wrote a Facebook post stating they would be away for a week, possibly next week, for bible camp.

Then, sometime on the past two hours, the One Million Moms Facebook page disappeared.

It is unclear if the page was taken down by One Million Moms, or by their parent organization, the certified anti-gay hate group, American Family Association, or by Facebook.

This reporter is proud to have contributed to the shaming of a bigoted hate group that tries to oppress others under the guise of morality.

Just like the time Westboro Baptist Church declared war on us at Comic Con. From what I hear, the counter protests of "What do we want? Gay sex! When do we want it? Now!" COMPLETELY drowned out their hate filled rhetoric...

Their name infuriates me. There are nowhere near one million of them for a start, but by claiming the numbers and declaring themselves 'moms' as opposed to, say, Christians fundamentalists, they are asserting a moral authority that they just do not possess. It's a particularly insidious way to be a bully.

I think the Bible Camp excuse is interesting. It is that time of year, schools out and Bible camps are starting up, but how many members must they really have if they have to close down to go to camp? One million or one?
