Ah. Well, feeling rather foolish, I see that the X-Men contingent has taken the lead. Boo.

and this is why marvel has crafted this story so well, one can see both sides. Yes the X-Men are fighting for their survival.. But the avengers are fighting to save the entire world INCLUDING mutantkind. Sure the phoenix might be able to reignite the x-gene. But why risk it coming to earth, send Hope some place off world so if she can't control it the whole earth doesn't get wiped out. If Hope can control the Phoenix then she could come to earth and restart the x-gene... i don't understand why Cyclops thinks its such a good idea to let the phoenix force come to earth, especially since the force has been shown to be destroying world after world after world. Have Hope board a space craft with both X-Men and Avengers, and let her see if she can control it OFF world. Why risk billions of people. That's why i'm torn. Both sides have a valid point

But the reason why Cap and the Avengers are wrong is they're operating under the assumption that anyone is "letting" the Phoenix come to Earth. She's on her way looking for a host, there wasn't any invitation to visit from the X-men. What if she doesn't follow Hope or take kindly to all this interference from the lowly humans? Who's to say the Phoenix won't destroy the world if she got there and Hope is off planet or concealed somewhere? Where would Zenn La be if Norrin Radd hadn't been there to step up?

The Avengers only qualification for leadership in this situation is a desire for control. I wouldn't expect Superman to step aside and let Green Lantern handle Brainiac either.

And the whole thing about the Avengers not being heroic doesn't make sense when Cyclops is only looking out for his race and not everybody else.

I've been having a hard time with this but I think that's because I'm more of an X-Men fan. Having thought about it a bit more and tried to put my biases aside I'm going to go with...Avengers.

If there's even a small chance of the Phoenix wreaking havoc then it's best to err on the safe side and kill that bitch. This thing has already slaughtered billions of innocent beings because it was hungry once.

When there are billions of lives at stake that trumps pretty much anything, even if the probability of a disaster is extremely small.

The strongest argument I think the X-Men could make is that trying to kill the host might just make it worse somehow but I don't think that's very plausible.

With that logic Scott should turn around and ask why Wanda is on the team and not six feet under.

Possibly. But Wanda hasn't done anywhere near as much damage as the Phoenix has.

Scott doesn't care about global annihilation. The death of billions is reconcilable to him if it means he gets a chance to advance his people.
