So youre the President of the united states, and Iran goes on a rampage, destroys the entire middle east, and says " our only goal is to kill the president of the united states now, and we are launching a missile at him!" Do you, as the President, fly to New York City, and promise to catch the missile, or do you fly to the desert and plan to shoot it out of the sky. In case the military can't take it out, at least itll hit in the desert where no one can get hurt.

Don't apply real world logic to a world where a giant bird of fire is destroying planets.

The same thing will happen, regardless of who she is standing next to. No one knows.

What we do know is that all the Phoenix has been doing lately is blowing up planets. Its stupid and villainous to attempt to sacrifice the world to "make a point" like Scott is so intent on doing. The only reason he isn't doing the logical thing and taking her off planet is because Cap thought of it first.

At the end of the day, Scott sees that if the earth gets destroyed, it would be worth it because he at least tried to restore mutantkind. He sees humans as pawns in his game. To him, if he's wrong, at least he tried.

But why does Hope HAVE to be on earth for the phoenix to merge with?? why is it such a big problem with people that she goes OFF world to meet up with the Phoenix?? Why take the risk on Earth that Hope can control the force. Why risk Billions of people on what amounts to more of a hunch. And before you say "the x-men are more familiar with the Phoenix Force," lets see the Avengers have Wolverine (who killed Jean the last time she had the phoenix force during Morrison's run) and Beast (arguably the smartest mutant who also was there during the first phoenix attack).

she HAS to be on earth because of Scott's ego. He wants to prove to everyone that he is in control, and that no one gets to speak for "his people" but him.

and at the end of the day, who really cares how much "experience" Scott, or anyone besides Rachel, has with the Phoenix? What difference does it really make? He's watched the Phoenix do things, sure, but when it comes down to it, energy blasts from the eyes isn't gonna help anything.

the argument that scott should handle this because he has "experience" with the phoenix is akin to me saying that i should be a professional baseball player because I've been to a lot of baseball games.

And then you have Quentin Quire and Rachel both passing out when the Phoenix arrived, and Quenting saying that "it brings death".
