Is Marvel Getting Cold Feet About Gays in Comics?

Postby LOLtron » Wed Jun 06, 2012 4:25 pm

Is Marvel Getting Cold Feet About Gays in Comics? This Captain Marvel variant cover by Avi Granov betrays an alarming trend at Marvel Comics!

This reporter was outraged and a little bit saddened today to see this press release from Marvel comics. After several weeks of comics getting increasingly gayer, culminating in the defeat of the hate group One Million Moms on Facebook, Marvel comics appears to be backing away from it's initiative to feature gay characters more prominently in its comics. While the Northstar gay wedding is still scheduled to take place in Astonishing X-Men #51, it appears that Carol Danvers' haircut is being changed from a homosexual character haircut to a straight one.

When pics of Danvers as the newly rebooted DC superhero Captain Marvel first surfaced, the haircut was clearly lesbian. However, after fan complaints, Marvel subtly made the haircut longer and softer in a reworked version of the same image. Now, it seems, Marvel has abandoned all pretense and Carol Danvers' haircut has gone full blown straight.

The Outhouse urges Marvel not to give up in its fight to get money and attention from featuring gay characters and haircuts in its comics, and reconsider this decision before it's too late. At the very least, if Danvers is going to lose the haircut, perhaps she could start wearing Doc Marten boots to make up for it. Check out the press release below, and then observe the devolution of Captain Marvel's butch haircut in the following images.

straight women cut their hair all the time after a life changing event, has no one watched Felicity?
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

Of course they are.

Mutants are the equivalent of gays in the MU. Now a force is coming to earth that may eradicate them. Who hates gays the most? People from Arizona. Hence The Phoenix.

The darker-toned clip on hair still brings a laugh though, good grief who gave the thumbs up to either one of the first two? Sometimes even your best artists need to be sent back to the drawing board to start from scratch every once in a long while, apparently. You know things are bad when they send out Wacker to be a forum troll on BC.

So having a horrible hairstyle and a shitty costume automatically makes her a lesbian? Who came up with that idiotic conclusion? For everyone's information, a woman having short hair doesn't mean she is butch-I mean look at Maria Hill or Daisy Johnson who both have short hair and are confirmed as heterosexual. This would be like saying Leonard Samson or Thor are gay because they have long hair.

I never called her a lesbian. I said her hair was a lesbian.

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

I see. I had assumed that Marvel was the one who came up with that decision and you were just passing the information yourself. I personally don't see how a bad haircut would make her look butch from my point of view. The only thing I saw when I looked at that lame hairstyle and crappy costume was Marvel's upteenth attempt to force another Captain Marvel legacy character down our throats as they don't seem to get the fact that nobody for the most part cares enough to read the new upcoming series in the long run.
