Covers, Additional Info About DC's Wave Three Revealed

Want more info about DC's Wave Three?  Check inside.

Following up on this morning's shocking Wave Three announcements, here's what the Outhouse's DC Desk has learned.

From IGN:  DC has finally freed themselves of the 52 stigmata and will be publishing more than 52 titles beginning in September.  While this does not necessarily mean that all of DC's current titles are safe (Justice League International is confirmed to be cancelled), we may not see four Lobdell/Liefeld titles bite the dust anytime soon.  We also received confirmation that Team Seven will feature Slade Wilson as opposed to Wade Wilson.

From USA Today:  Talon will feature a liberated Talon named Calvin Rose, who has liberated himself from the Court of Owls.  Unlike other Talons, Calvin is still alive and will lack the regenerative abilities found in other Court of Owls operatives.  Talon's writer, James Tynion IV, was a student of Scott Snyder's at Sarah Lawrence College.

From i09Swords and Sorcery's Amethyst will be a full-on reboot, featuring a seventeen year old version of the character learning her origins.  The book will also feature a Beowulf adaptation set in an apocalyptic world.

From Newsarama: In an interview with Vaneta Rogers, Didio mentioned that DC Universe Presents #0 will feature stories from recently cancelled series such as Hawk and Dove, Blackhawks and Mr. Terrific

Check out the covers to two of the books below!

I'd say "Hooray for the return of Amethyst!!", but this is the DiDio era, which means the book will be made Darker and Edgier for no reason. Just remember, Dan and the Gang, sudden character deaths and "She's EVIL now, just because!!" have already been done with this character. If you must go GrimDark, at least come up with a GrimDark idea that she hasn't suffered through before.

Nice pic of Amethyst, though. Good thing you didn't let Jim "Little Lines and High Collars!!" Lee redesign EVERYone. Good to know that DC's Beowulf is back, too.

As for Team 7??
Wildstorm = Don't care. :P

Oh, and I'm afraid it's Grammar Nazi Time!!

ThanosCopter, you mean "stigma", not "stigmata".
"Stigmata" refers to the holes left in the hands of Jesus when he was crucified.

Unsurprisingly, Herald still doesn't know what words mean.

Not only is stigmata the plural of stigma, it's also precisely what the OP meant. As the person who edited it from stigmas to stigmata, I asked TC if s/he meant it to be plural. Her/his response was "yes".

Please invest in a dictionary. It will do wonders for you.

Unsurprisingly, BlueMole is the one who should invest in a dictionary, as well as learn how to edit properly.

"Stigmas" is an acceptable term for the plural of "stigma", and if the plural was needed, the word should never have been changed in the first place. I'd say that overzealous, unnecessary editing is a sign of needing to put one's stamp on someone else's work.

In any case, there is really ONLY ONE "stigma" being overcome, so actually, the word should have been changed to the singular. Yet, as we saw, the editor was more interested in demonstrating his knowledge of the word "stigmata" to notice this and make a PROPER correction.

Please invest in a dictionary AND try to edit people's reports properly. It will do wonders for you.

Having consulted several dictionaries to get a definitive answer, Bluemole is correct. "Stigmata" is the preferred term, although "stigmas" is also acceptable.

Then I'm correct, because "stigmas" never needed to be changed from the outset, except, of course, to the singular.

Is that a Josh Middleton cover for Amethyst? I miss his art, he's awesome.

Would this make Talon the first 'new' character to get a series post New52?

I think so, the only other one that's close is Batwing, who only appeared in 1 or 2 comics before the New 52.

For some reason I thought they already had more than 52 titles... I like the Amethyst cover, but not really her costume.

I'm enjoying it. I'd like to see a straight on shot of it before fully judging it.

They only introduced new books around the time they were cancelling previous books. It's 52 uptil now.
