LOST's Lindelof to Rewrite World War Z Movie

Postby LOLtron » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:51 pm

LOST's Lindelof to Rewrite World War Z MovieDamon Lindelof has been brought in to rewrite World War Z, despite the fact that filming wrapped last year.

It's never a good sign when a movie is sent back for rewrites after filming has been completed. It's even worse news when the rewrites are said to be major revisions to the third act of the film, and the writer brought in to handle them is notorious for the most unsatisfying ending in the history of fiction. World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, was originally scheduled to be in theaters for the holiday season this year, and later moved to next June, but even that doesn't look likely as Damon Lindelof has been brought in to "fix" the movie, focusing mainly on the third act. There is no specific word yet on what problems Lindelof will be fixing, but rumor has it that the cause of the zombie apocalypse will be revealed to be a magical cave light powered by "electro-magnetism" and "faith," and the movie will turn out to never have been about zombies in the first place - it was always character driven.

I've never understood that tendency in Hollywood.

"We're going to spend millions and millions adapting this pre-existing work, and to show we're successfull... it'll be NOTHING like the original!"

Oh, I know! Let's make a movie based on Mass Effect! But since Sci-Fi films aren't as big these days as superhero, we're going to set it all in present day New York! The world's greatest superhero, The Shepherd, will fight to win the love of Original Character A, while defending the world from the Reaper, a shadowy mystical entity that wants to enslave us all and make us read his emo poetry!

Maybe it's more like editing the movie's LOST-style flashbacks and not reshooting any scenes or anything...?
