Amazing Spider-Man #687

Postby Zechs » Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:58 pm

Somewhat disappointed in the final battle. Actually, the Rhino/Sable part was superior than the actual Spidey/Ock confrontation. I dunno the whole Rhino story has been one of the best things about the new Spider-Man. Though honestly I don't see the deaths sticking. Next post on spoilers.

[Reveal] Spoiler: Click to Expand
With help from Mysterio, Spidey disables the octobots controlling the Avengers. Then with the lead Mysterio gave him, Spidey and his angels crash Ock's underwater base.

A massive fight erupts and of course the base is flooding. Rhino knows the truth of Ock's plan but doesn't care since he wants to die and be reuinited with his late wife. Sable tells Spidey to go confront Ock and he does. Meanwhile Rhino grabs Sable and well.. it appears both drown.

Spidey and Ock tumble. Spidey talks to Ock on the stupidity of his plan being that if he burns the Earth nobody will remember it was he who did it given their brains would be fired too. Ock yields and the two escape. Again no show of Sable/Rhino and thus it appears their both dead.

What does Slott have against white haired people? Silvermane. Roderick Kingsley. Now.. Silver Sable. SLOTT!!! STOP WIPING THE MARVEL VERSE OF THESE PEOPLE!!

The part in which Rhino drowns Silver Sable (and himself) is one of the most contrived things I've ever seen in a comic book, and that's saying something. The battle with the mind-controlled Avengers was also weak and anticlimactic, but at least it had some cool visuals. (Caselli is a good artist.) The finale was disappointing, but it wasn't terrible.

I don't know. It wasn't good by any stretch, but it wasn't as bad as a lot of the story had been up to this point. Honestly, I'm really burnt out on Slott's run at this point. I really wish somebody else would get a crack at it.

If you haven't liked Spider-Man since BND, why do you keep reading it? Is it the Herald syndrome?

It's like having a family member that you grew up with as a kid become a dickhead as an adult. I love him and we've had a lot of great times together, so even though he's a shell of himself I still want to like him and see him redeem himself. Every time I look at him, I say to myself, "I hate what's happened to you, but maybe, one day, things can be like they used to be."
