Which again adds to the confusion of one thing: if there is a Thomas Wayne Jr. in this world, does that mean that the Crime Syndicate counterpart no longer existst then? Does this also mean that Ultra Man, Super Woman, Johnny Quick and Power Ring got retconned as well? Another reason as to why the New 52 is so confusing.

Not really - there was a Thomas Wayne jr on Earth-1 in the pre-COIE DCU.

He's making too much of previous continuities. The bottom line is take it as a wink to preveous stories and enjoy what you're reading now.

Well they did confirm that a lot of the stuff that happened in the bat-books is still canon-in any case, the new 52 is a complete clusterfuck thanks to Dan Didiot.

Nope, this is as confusing as DC chooses to make it. A lot of things from the Bat and Green Lantern books are still canon if you check it out which means that not everything was rebooted. In all, this New 52 was not handled as neatly as it should have been but I will save that rant for another thread.

Agreed and an understatement.

I also think all the continuity flips (and flops) of the last handful of years has contributed to this.

Talia's the daughter of a guy who's thousands of years old, operates out of basically every major country in the world and several minor ones, whose plans generally involve wiping out 2/3 of the World's population, and who has resources equal to Batman's. He was behind Contagion, and almost exponentially increased that death toll with Legacy. Talia's got all his resources, plus youth, and is a spurned woman scorned who is fighting for her child. I absolutely buy that she's the big bad and rates Bats franchising.

Bats has fought Ra's for years, and never saw fit to franchise across the world. A pi$$ed off Talia is still only half as dangerous as Ra's is.

I can see Ra's being the eventual Big Bad behind Taila, but there's no way in heck she's doing this on her own. She's been a pawn all her life, and she's a pawn now.

she also hasn't been a daughter her whole life, but now she's a mom. trust me, that's a wholly different dynamic and brings out a WHOLE different level of danger and deadliness in a woman. fighting for her daddy is one thing...fighting for Damian is something totally different.

So she creates Leviathan out of thin air just to get her son? Not buying it.

Now it was Ra's manipulating her in the shadows (which is a pretty good possibility, since DC has done $#!t with him since bringing him back from the dead), I could see something like this happening.

because you've never had a kid. parental (and especially maternal) instinct will cause you to do some extreme shit.

Like putting a $500 million hit on your own kid?

I'd say her extreme behavior does have more to do with manipulation behind the scenes than it does her "concern" for Damian.

I read each Batman book/story independently of itself. When reading a batman story these are the following things you need to know.

Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered in front of his eyes(never going to change)
Bruce Wayne became Batman to avenge his parents death(never going to change)
Sometimes Batman has a sidekick.
Batman is the greatest/worst detective ever.
Batman is the GODDAMN BATMAN!

After that none of it matters.
