Grant Morrison given an MBE by the Queen!

Not content with her Jubilee celebrations, the Queen has named Grant Morrison a 'Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire'!

Arise Sir Morrison! (Not quite)

Every year for her Birthday, Queen Elizabeth II names a bunch of people (well, it's not her, but it's done through her, she's the middle man) to honour with various orders of chivalry, she basically dubs them with a sword and gives them a medal.

And this year, comic-book legend Grant Morrison has been named among them! The current Action Comics and Batman Incorporated writer was given an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to literature, which while it's the lowest rung on the ladder, is still pretty cool. Plus, it's a sign of the growing respect that comics have gained in the wider world.

I just wonder what the hell G-Moz will have to say to her Madge!

Being named and acceptd are two different things.

Will Morrison play along or will he join the likes of those who said "no thanks" (i.e. John Lennon, David Bowie, Malcolm McDowell, Graham Greene, John Lyndon, Kenneth Branagh, Roald Dahl, John Cleese, etc)?

Lennon didn't say no, he sent his back a few years after receiving it, in protest over the Vietnam war. And Branagh accepted a knighthood.

Turning it in or declining it outright is the same as 'no thanks' to me (and after looking it up, Branagh was just listed as a knight today - that'll teach me to stay up on very current events. :lol:

They ran most of the good ones off. Morrison can be okay, occasionally good, but I've read most of the stuff he's acclaimed for and never thought of it as "great", (Animal Man, JLA, ASS---though the later is awesomely abreviated). And he's written stuff that read very like he put it down when he was in a drug induced coma.

Every time the Queen has a birthday, she awards honors to certain individuals from the UK. Sometimes it's knighthood, sometimes it's a little shiny medal like the MBE.

Think of it something like a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
