Superman and Batman's outside underwear. Yeah, I know it would ridiculous in real life but so is Wolverine's yellow and blue costume and he's still wearing it!

I can't really explain it, but without the outside underwear they look....naked for some reason. How are criminals supposed to be intimidated of Batman when he looks like a pantsless Ken doll?

That's the whole point of the story: To demonstrate why Superman doesn't need to be made Darker and Edgier like the Authority and their ilk. The fact that the DCnU Superman was ever created demonstrates that Dan and the Gang clearly didn't get this point. :roll:

The "outside underwear" had a visual design function: To break up the blue of Superman's costume and the grey of Batman's costume. Without the areas of red and black to break up those large areas, the costumes look even more "painted-on" all over than ever, thus creating that "naked" look you mentioned.

But let's face it; this is all part of their idiotic "change for change's sake". If Dan and the Gang were REALLY worried about what looks ridiculous, or even had a clue about good design, Jay Garrick's DCnU costume wouldn't have been created...

I don't think it's that big of a deal. The belts break up the colors already anyway. It's just a matter of people not being able to accept change.

In terms of Batman, I honestly didn't even notice the change, that's how little it has affected me. Superman's is more jarring, but I don't hate it. Just the writing of the books. :no:

I think the main bodysuit of Batman's costume needs to be dark. I don't think the light gray looks right.

The underwear was stupid looking when I was 8 years old and the haze of nostalgia has done nothing to change that. All you have to do is look at Christopher Reeves in Superman to see it.
They aren't a big deal in cartoons but as soon as you "realistic" up the comic stories or stick it in live-action, it's just ridiculous.

Also, why the Hel does Batman wear all black to sneak around in the dark but wears a BIG YELLOW belt? Maybe if he still had the yellow oval around his symbol it would at least make sense in regards to design symmetry but since he doesn't, it just looks dumb.

I miss simple costumes without all kinds of arbitrary lines running through them. Not because of any sense of nostalgia or because I dislike or want to avoid change. I miss simple costumes because quite frankly, the ones we have now, suck.
