Daredevil #14 (I did it! I'm free! Spoilers)

Postby Punchy » Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:51 am

Even though this issue didn’t actually feature Daredevil taking on Doctor Doom (hey, it’s the battle of the DDs, insert a joke about boobs here), it was still awesome, and I say that despite the fact I had completely gotten the ending of #13, I had thought it had something to do with Klaw and that DD (referring to Daredevil here, not Doom) had been replaced ages ago, but instead it was just a simple (sic) teleportation. Daredevil comes face to face with the head of the Latverian bank, and after a seemingly harmless gas attack, he’s free to go, but in a brilliant bit of characterisation, he plays right into the villain’s hands by attacking them, Daredevil really doesn’t look before he leaps. A thrilling chase through Latveria ensues, with this issue really evoking the character’s swash-buckling roots, he’s in a country that looks straight out of a Douglas Fairbanks movie. Of course, the gas Daredevil inhaled wasn’t actually harmless, but instead slowly takes away his senses, which adds a race against time element to the story. I absolutely love that at the end of this issue DD totally failed to escape, it undercut the story beautifully, and shocked me a lot, I can’t wait to see how he eventually does get out of this situation, and hopefully see him actually come face to face with Doom. Chris Samnee’s art was fantastic, his first issue was a slow, character issue, but here he got to unleash his action chops, and it was awesome. Oh yeah, and more intrigue back in NYC with Foggy worrying about Matt, what’s in the drawer? I’m guessing it’s Battlin’ Jack’s skull!

I hope Zechs didn't feel ripped off, purchasing a book with Doom on the cover but not appearing in the story :-D

Since I haven't gotten my comics. Instead, I shall simply just put this back on the rack. No Doom equals no purchase from me.

your loss. missing a great book.

you should also pick up this week's Dark Avengers (yes, that's a hint), for more than just the chance to see Man-Thing say "Y'all tha snitches that got me my riches" (although dammit, that should be reason enough! :-D )

I'd like to see Doctor Doom just straight up be killed by the Punisher.

I'd like to see the Punisher just straight up be killed by a Doombot. Forever.

Ha! That line in DA had me rolling! And a decent explanation to boot! But yeah, you're missing you if you skip Daredevil...it was really, really good.

It's either the skull or a collection of bones. I can't wait to see how Matt talks his way out of this one. Looks like the partnership is over. :-(

Also the webmaster of this DD site made a cameo in this issue as the guy cleaning up the law offices:

I liked Chancellor Beltane, he made for an interesting adversary. Has he appeared before?

However, I will say that I echo the thought that it was a little disappointed to see no Doom.
