DC Needs More Opinions about the New 52

Postby LOLtron » Fri Jun 22, 2012 10:09 am

DC Needs More Opinions about the New 52Nielsen is doing another survey for DC.

DC Comics has hired Nielsen Survey Group to conduct a second survey about their New 52 initiative, this time focusing on certain...poorly received books.  Ranging from cancelled series such as Hawk and Dove to more recent duds such as The Ravagers, the survey appears to be testing the water to see if any of these comics have any fans.  It's interesting to note that both The Ravagers and GI Combat are on the list just after being released.  Also encouraging is that low-selling but enjoyable titles such as I, Vampire and Demon Knights were left off the list.

Of course, like the last Nielsen survey, this survey has a fake comic, entitled Orange Ivy, to throw out answers from spambots and idiots.  It also asks several questions about digital comics and whether anyone bothers to use them.  Finally, it gives participants a chance to tell DC how they feel about the New 52 and Wave Two titles, so if you want a chance to whine about how the New 52 raped your childhood and that Power Girl's just not the same without her boob window, now's your chance.

Should we start a poll as to which nerdy comedian gets offended this time?

It seemed like it focused on the entire line, but it does have a few questions about the "retired" titles that were replaced recently by the Second Wave.

I didn't like that I couldn't go back as after getting to a certain part of the survey, I realized that I had read another part wrong so I had made a mistake. Other than that, I liked this survey more than the original one. I feel that this survey left more room for us to be as brutally honest as we wanted to be.

Nothing good aver came from a survey --> just encourages brands to go for the largest common denominator.

Companies who write stories based on polling, not on what creators want to do, suck.
It's no different than politicians telling us what we want to hear.
I remember that stupid JLA with Obsidian and Nuklon in it. They always had those reader polls on who do you want to be a member, and someone would always write their favourite, even if they were a mort.
Bottom line, if the creator isn't driving the story, if it's driven by the company, it's going to stink 88 times out of 103.

I think these surveys are helpful in that they show exactly what fans do and don't want instead of allowing companies to delude themselves into thinking that Rob Liefeld or Scott Lobdell are names that sell books.

But they do! We all sadly love to see the "car wreck" as it happens.

Well, I dunno about Lobdell, but for Rob it could honestly be as simple as the fact that his longtime friend and former business partner is the publisher, couldn't it?

So. let me get this straight.

As readers and fans we should become indignant when Companies do what they want because no one is listening to us, but we should also become indignant when we are polled because then we should assume that the Companies aren't allowing the Creators to do what they want ?

Of that I have no doubt. It's who you know in this biz. But if they do this survey, and think of we need a series starring whoever, and oh, let's throw Rob on it... it might or might not be a good idea, but it's DOA as far as most sane fans are.
Creators create, and the best creators don't need a poll to tell them what to do. DC, wtf happened to you? I defended the second place company all my life, and now I'm reading zero DC titles, and shaking my head at your corporate BS

I'm unsure I've ever met a "sane" fan in an industry single-handedly keeping spandex manufacturers in business...:groucho:
