Since carry-on isn't the only option when boarding the plane, it's not all that ridiculous. As someone said above, it's not difficult to go find out what rules there might be when carrying around something other than standard luggage. These days, dealing with anyone in any kind of customer service is likely to be troublesome, so really you're the idiot if you don't protect yourself by knowing everything there is to know about the specialized situation you're putting yourself into before you get into it.

The TSA agent didn't follow the rules, that's the issue, not the passenger.

No, my Dad didn't like him getting stripped by 3 TSA agents, my grandfather didn't say a word.

It just shows you how stupid the security is on these things.

Since when are 90 year old veterans, and little old grannies good suspects for a terrorist attack?

who knows? I've come to the conclusion that TSA sucks and most of us will get patted down at least once in our lives. If it helps safety in general, im willing to deal with it. I can't imagine many would disagree.

i misread it. Sorry. Why would your dad be upset by that? Its a very common security measure. He's aware that people often get cavity searches at airports, right?

i apologize if i sound callous, but i never understand why people get so bent out of shape about stuff like this. Its very widely known, and pretty common.

Because it's human nature to get upset when you see an elderly crippled person needlessly manhandled.

I'm really surprised you need an explanation.

They were doing their job. No need to take it personally. Like i said, it is very common to be searched at TSA.
Like Regulator said, there are things that you need to expect when going through security at an airport, this is one of them.

Quite a few people disagree that this show is effective at anything other than humiliating passengers.

If doing your job means you have to stip search an elderly crippled person whom served his country and just buried his wife you need a new fucking job.

This wasn't a pat down, and my father wasn't the only person whom was disgusted with the display. The guy behind my grandfather in line asked the TSA agen if he'd at least bought him dinner before a search like that.

I despise the TSA. I won't even speak to an off-duty TSA agent.

So strip searching old people is "reasonable" to you?

I don't know what goes into TSA, and i never will. I don't care to go around to places and pretend like i know how to do someone's job better, or that i know the reasoning behind their actions. I don't get visibly angry or mock them for doing their job, and i sure as hell don't run to the newspaper every time i feel slighted by anyone.
I go out everyday with the understanding that there truly are assholes out there in this world, and that i most likely will have to deal with a few in a given day. What I don't do is pretend like every person that is affecting me negatively is an asshole, i don't assume every person that shares the same job as someone who affected me negatively is an asshole, and i don't pretend like I didn't expect someone to negatively affect me in a given day.

All this outrage is BS. we KNOW what happens in airports, just like we know what happens in a doctor's office. We shouldn't pretend like this is something shocking. If you don't want to deal with high levels of security, stay out of airports.

We know that their job description does not read "humiliate old people", and we can only assume that most people are simply doing their job, and not being intentionally sinister.

So, I will go through my days, understanding there are assholes out there, dealing with roadblocks and inconveniences as i go, avoiding airports if i don't want to deal with heightened security, and not generalizing about entire groups of people and the jobs they choose; and you can go complain about how you believe these people are out to get you and are dead set on humiliating you and your family and let it color your life from that point on. Or you could just deal with it and understand that people suck sometimes.

This. Though to be fair, those people gravitate towards TSA jobs.
