Say what you want about Chris Claremont, but Avengers Annual #10 did it's best to clean that shit up and dress down the Avengers at the same time.

You'd never guess from the awful Milgrom cover that the interior art would be so good. Thank you, Michael Golden!

A year ago, we had such brilliant comics such as Reign of Doomsday, Wonder Woman in a leather jacket, and evil Titans. People have had this tendency to romanticize the old DCU as if it wasn't also shit. It was shit and it was worse. The only difference is that there's less DC fanboys blindly supporting the company and claiming that Hawk and Dove isn't a sin against man.

i'll take some umbrage here:

JLA was good under Waid and Kelly post-Morrison.
Firestorm actually has a pretty decent history of good runs, from the initial 18 issues or so of the 80s book, Ostrander's later run on that same book, and the most recent Moore/Igle stuff.
and leather jacket WW actually turned into a pretty damn good story.

I've got that comic and the Avengers 200 issue too. It was a great art comic.

It was a great moment, yet one that got barely dealt with until Busiek covered Carol's alcoholism in his Avengers run.

The Hypolita is a gingerist arc.

Waid's JLA was a decade ago. Igle's Firestorm was five years ago. We'll agree to disagree with Wonder Woman.

DC has published a lot of crap in the last five years. I'd rather the crap be "poor, stripped down versions of characters" with no backstory and no "real relation" to the characters that fans care about than the characters with all the backhistory and emotional connections that people will buy comics for no matter how nauseatingly awful they are.

Wait. Aren't they talking about Wonder Woman just before the reboot, and not way back when when Artemis took over for a while as WW ?

Chap mentioned the leather jacket storyline of WW. Aka the Wonder Fly Girl arc. That was the time with Artemis took over as WW. I laugh at it because it broke down as Hypolita decided to let a red head take the bullet for her daughter. Gingerist! :P

Yep. This was probably the most badass incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants ever. Pyro had one of the coolest looking splash pages I'd ever seen at the time.
