Spider-Men #2 *Spoilers*

Postby Zechs » Wed Jun 27, 2012 7:37 pm

Bendis does what he does best or is it worst? There's a lot of dialogue to be had in this issue which is Pete vs. Miles because first encounters means fights. I'm kind of disappointed with it to be honest. Yes, Pete is "off his game" during the fight, but seriously he should have owned Miles quite easily with his Spider-Fu skills and being a pro at this sort of thing. That's my only downside to this fight, it makes Miles look better than him power wise.

After that we're given a long talk between Pete and Ultimate Nick Fury which leads to the most goddamn longest word balloon I've seen. Issue ends with Mysterio in his Ultimate identity shooting down the helicopter the two Spider-Men are on and a big fight looms next issue.

For a "mega event" it's hitting the right numbers for the moment. It's just not delivering the powerful moments.. YET. I cannot wait for Ultimate Gwen, MJ, and May to meet Pete.

This. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy this issue but there is absolutely no way that anybody can convince me that Miles, who just started and has no training, could beat Peter. Granted, as you said, Peter was off his game and we can assume that he was holding back based on Miles's age...but keeping that in mind, Peter should have been able to disable Miles.

Pretty sure they made it look like Peter was holding back due to Miles being a kid, and then got caught unawares with the venom blast. He even commented he was like an 11 year old.

Still, he acted like the rookie in this fight and Miles more the pro. I mean I get he's all shocked but that much shocked? Dude has faced Dr. Doom and seen Celestials. How does this sort of thing not phase him? This world knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Yeah that shakes him as much as a completely new Spider-Man. But it shouldn't phase him that much.

Doom is a grown man. Any good person would hesitate to pound on an 11yr old.

Unless they have been hanging around Wolverine for a prolonged period of time but in that case I would assume that they would skip the pounding and go straight for the stabbing.

I'm not usually one of the "trade wait" crowd, but from my own knowledge of Bendis' trademarked decompression and reviews I've read of issue #1, I think I'll sit this one out until later.

That was a snarky 16yr old. We'd all put one of them out of their misery.

Just like a RICHARDS pouting over the fact Thor is a jerk. But a GLORIOUS jerk, but a jerk none the same. Still, I guess since Pete didn't downright own Miles that does make him less a jerk.. but still a wife beater. I mean woman beater.. since that marriage is all BONG now. So in essence.. Pete is Henry Pym and it's all come back to that bastard Pym, who really isn't as much a jerk like that accursed RICHARDS.

And thus the cycle gets to it's natural conclusion.. Reed Richards is a asshole.

More inter-dimensional fun with Peter and Miles. This story is still only just getting started really, but I’m having a hell of a good time, it’s tickling the fanboy part of my brain seeing these two universe interact. The fight between Peter and Miles was great, not only for the dialogue, with both characters seriously going WTF and Peter hilariously admitting that Miles’ costume was cooler than his own, but also for how Bendis and Pichelli (who is just amazing, or spectacular, or sensational, or… Web Of?) contrasted the two characters. Both of these guys may be Spider-Man, but they fight in different ways because of their different abilities, and this fight showcased those. So we got to see Peter use the web-shooters that Miles doesn’t have, and in contrast to that, Miles managed to use his invisibility and electro-shock powers to win in the end. The stuff with Peter and Ultimate Nick Fury was good too, and it was fantastic to see Nick express some emotions, he may be a total bastard, but Bendis established that he did care for Ultimate Peter, now he has a second chance. The villain of the piece is also very interesting, ‘Mysterio’ doesn’t cross the dimensional barrier himself, but sends a robot. Is he even Mysterio? Who the heck is he? This mini-series continues to, against all the odds, show that a Marvel Universe/Ultimate Universe crossover can work, and it’s the perfect celebration for Spider-Man’s 50th.

Yes Punchy I think Bendis is literally spelled it out to us that Mysterio is Ultimate Mysterio.
