I hadn't even heard of this fifty shades shit last month and now it's gone viral among girls I know from uni students to singles, to the married and they seem more obsessed with it than teen girls ever were about Twilight. I had no idea hardcore graphic S&M fiction sold so well to soccer moms and girls outside of Mills & Boon.
And it's not terribly good either, I flicked through my friends copy and it's atrocious. There's even a token Hispanic guy that says "dios mio" in every sentence and every expression of amazement seems to be "holy moses" or "golly" in what's supposed to be a NY setting. The hardcore scenes are also as bad as some of the fantasies we've read centered around PG's rack on comic forums.
As for the title of this thread, yeah.....my newspaper's book reviews said this was originally an Elseworlds Twilight story written by some woman with too much time on her hands.
So how in the hell did this become a cult hit?
