Day 184 (yesterday).

I'm officially over the half-way point. Yesterday I watched last Friday's Smackdown. It was a bit tough to get through. I suspect when I watch RAW later, it will be as well. I should have noticed the warning sign last week when I didn't even bother to download RAW to finish it since my DVR only got the first two matches. All signs are pointing to me growing bored with WWE. This happens, I guess.

Anyway, the opener was a divas match. I don't know if any of you have ever picked up on it, but I don't watch women wrestle in WWE. The post-match segment with AJ and Danielson was pretty good though and I enjoyed it immensely. Who would have guessed that AJ would become the best character (IMO, of course) in this whole deal? Her interactions with Danielson and Vickie were top-notch.

Sandow/Ryder was droll.

Kidd vs. Swagger was, if nothing else, perfectly executed. The match was fine for what it was, but they did a good job of making it look like Swagger was the odds on favorite here. But don't fool yourself, Kidd is essentially this years Evan Bourne/Justin Gabriel (who HAS been in the MITB, despite Cole's claims to contrary).

I found Cody/David vs. Santino/Christian to be a middling affair, which is surprising because I greatly enjoy all involved. This was pretty much where I started to accept that maybe I'm just bored with WWE as a whole.

Ryback squash was fine. Gabriel/Tensai was fine.

The 3-way main event was fine as well, but it seemed to be pretty pedestrian stuff up until the superhot finish where Ziggler did the job AGAIN. Seriously, they'll have no one to blame but themselves for losing out on Ziggler. I don't think he's the end all, be all that some do and I think believe he lacks that special "IT"-factor, but he could be perfectly serviceable main event foil to anyone if he was kept strong.

Match of the Day goes to Dolph Zigger vs. Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio.

This is sad, really sad

(from dirt sheets)
The Raw 3-hour announcement promo that was posted earlier today was put together by the staff at USA, not WWE.

Really sad that USA staff can throw together a 2 minute commercial that is more entertaining then a two hour show.run by WWE :smt011

Alex Riley is probably just glad that he got to appear on TV at this point.

I've gone old-school lately, watching a lot of old Mid-Atlantic and Mid-South matches on YouTube. 8) I have fond memories of Mid-Atlantic wrestling, and Mid-South was just as good as I heard/read it was.

MACW was the glory days of pro wrestling for me. Good stuff and it is a shame that JCP wasn't able to successfully manage the growth of the NWA as a counter to WWF. Everybody needs to remember that well before the InVasion, there was the absolute waste of the talent acquired in the takeover of the UWF. Like the InVasion that followed it, lots of money and goodwill were left on the table.

Day 185.

I watched RAW today. It was a bit of a mixed bag.

The opening segment was fun. Everyone involved did their part well, so I've not complaints with it.

The 8-man match was OK at best. The ending portion of it this was just, well, it was what it was. The idea behind Alberto killing Sin Cara is mindbogglingly dumb. No benefit there, and frankly, Del Rio killing people in quick fashions because he has a title match is losing its luster.

The Paul Heyman-segment was great, but Heyman is a great talker so what do you expect?

Sheamus/AJ vs. Vickie Dolph was a bore, though I was shocked Dolph didn't job. Heath Slater vs. Doink was worthless, but DDP getting a pop and the Diamond were great to see. These are the nostalgia acts that will work for the modern fan. Duggan and Slaughter are too far in the past for today's fan. Kane vs. Big Show was just Kane vs. Big Show. Kidd vs. Tensai was whatever it was. That kind of win doesn't really do anything for Kidd, honestly.

The main event was a solid tag match with a terrific show-ending angle. I thought immediately when Cena/Jericho went to the back that Punk was jobbing. I didn't have a problem if he did. Regardless, AJ was on point here to perfection. Great stuff.

Match of the Day goes to John Cena/CM Punk vs. Bryan Danielson/Chris Jericho.

Yeah, I liked it too. Nothing spectacular but, a decent show before the holiday. It could've been much more phoned in that it was, thankfully.

Really enjoyed Smackdown last night, had some fun matches and actual funny backstage segments. I totally did not see Zack Ryder getting the win in the Battle Royal until it came down to just him and Kane in the ring. I know the Broski would be getting his revenge on Kane finally!!

Do you think that Sting could have been as big as Hogan if he would have had the WWF promotion machine behind him by the time Hogan was being phased out in 92-93. I was watching an old Sting match against Ric Flair and his charisma is through the roof, he had a great look and he could put on great matches too. What would have happened if they replaced Bret Hart as the WWF Champion with Sting?

I generally don't do this speculative type thing but...

Sting wouldn't have been pushed too well in the WWF. He'd already made a name for himself by that time and Vince really doesn't seem to like that (this covers everything from trademark rights/marketing to Vince's seeming belief that he is a god when it comes to creating stars).

While they weren't too similar, I think Vince would've had a been there done that feel with Sting considering the push he'd given to his old Blade Runners partner, The Warrior Formerly Known As Jim Hellwig.

If he did and got the push, I don't think it would've made Sting any bigger of a name than he already is. I don't think his being in the WWF would've changed that fact that wrestling was trending downward in terms of popularity and creatively. He still would've jobbed to Yoko so Hogan could beat him right afterwards for the title. And, him wrestling Doink would've been no more interesting than anyone else wrestling Doink. Sting, also, was having a great run at the time against the likes of Vader, Cactus Jack, Rick Rude, and others. Wouldn't change that for the world.

Lastly, the only upside to him being in the WWF is that--maybe---we wouldn't have had the mini-movie stuff with Cheatum the One-Eyed Midget.

Day 186 (yesterday).

I watched a John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre using the YouTube app on my X-box. The match was fine. Drew worked the arm early, but it didn't pay off in the end. He did get the win, and furthered himself back into obscurity.

Match of the Day goes to John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre, of course.

It was fun.

The thing I always liked about Teddy being GM is that he had parties for the guys that don't get on tv. :P

I'm guessing someone like Austin is going to be Raw GM since they're having Ryder GM SD. :smt102

I'd hardly call that revenge. I see that type of elimination as the guy eliminating himself. :smt102
