Here he became a vengeful punk and I didn't feel he became a hero until he saved that kid. Which doesn't feel right for Spider-Man.
The cast was by a large better but the story wasn't.
Also the Lizard did indeed look like a Goomba.
He became vengeful in Spidey 1 too.. did he not chase the guy to the warehouse?
The same thing played out here, just in a different way, because the entire first half of the movie was basically the origin, instead of just the first 20 minutes or however long in the Raimi movie... The themes of "with great power comes great responsibility" were still there, with him realizing he had the power to help people and do something good during the bridge scene.
