Hey guys, my ex said he caught my son watching questionable anime, Gintama, that wasn't hentai. It looked hilarious to me and I thought it was fine for 15. He said the purple hair chick had sadomasochistic behaviors. Did I miss something?

I've never watched Gin Tama, but the themes in many Japanese anime have a quality about them that sometimes westerners have a bit of trouble thinking of as "for children". For instance, showing boobs and stuff often happns (bath scenes, etc) even in shows meant for younger kids.

I do know that Gin Tama is not classified as hentai (strange/perverted/pornographic) and is a manga (comic) in Shonen Jump. That manga is aimed at kids, I'd say maybe 9 or 10 and up. Dragonball & Naruto were in that manga as well, so around the age for that.

The anime has over a hundred episodes so research is a bit difficult.

Ayame has a playful attitude, but gets serious when it comes to her work. She also seems to enjoy bondage and S&M.Although Gintoki is indifferent to her affections and even treats her badly most times (e.g throwing things at her whenever he senses her stalker presence), her 'M' or masochistic personality only makes her enjoy the punishment, and his 'cruelty' only serves to encourage her. Despite the 'stalker' label, she feels insulted to be compared to Kondou Isao and his stalking of Shimura Tae. At multiple occasions, she has shown that her mind is very sex-oriented, trying to get Gintoki to join her S&M games, or being aroused by a lack of public decency.

God I hate when he's right.

Well I don't think it is explicit S&M. Maybe some playful outfits and absurd violence. It's really not an "adult" show.

Though if you are a prude (like Cat-Scratch), then steer away.

Agreed. The show might get a little risque to get a laugh, but you're not ever going to see the characters go too far into that.
