Character Spotlight: Heath Huston – Fear AgentToday we take a look at the agent of Fear himself, Heath Huston!

In an Internet filled with overwhelming negativity and pointless hatred of frivolous stuff, it's sometimes necessary to take a step back, take a deep breath and remember why we enjoy comics in the first place. Character Spotlight is a weekly feature showcasing some of the Outhouse's favorite characters that epitomize why we read comics. Maybe you'll learn something, maybe you won't, but regardless we hope you enjoy the Outhouse's Character Spotlight!

Origin Story:

Heath Huston was a simple redneck living the dream of a precarious job, a house with a picket fence, a gorgeous wife and cute kid. Then aliens decided to invade earth and annihilate humankind.

Having lost most of his family and friends in the initial strikes, he decided to fight back. Along with his remaining friends, family and neighbours, he created the resistance movement that became known has the Fear Agents. This lead to guerrilla fighting the invading aliens, but the Fear Agents where doomed to fail under the technologically superior invasion force. In an act of desperation, Heathrow committed a grave and unforgivable atrocity that backfired in ways he never planned or believed possible. This dictates his exile to deep space, and it is there we find our "hero". Anything else would spoil the joy of reading about Heath's fantastic misadventures.

Character Appeal:

You take John McClane, add alcoholism, a fish bowl helmet, a rocket pack and a ray gun and you get Fear Agent Heath Hudson. And what can be cooler than John Maclane IN SPACE with retro spacewear blasting evil aliens with ray guns and getting his butt kicked from earth to the end of time and space?
Nothing, I Yippee-ki-yay tell you.

Heathrow is a man of multiple shades and dimensions, on one hand he is a die-hard alcoholic redneck space cowboy burdened with the guilt of unspeakable atrocities, on the other he is a Clemens (Mark Twain) quoting, family man, freedom fighter with the worst luck in the universe. Also, depending on your definition, he's a God.

He pilots a phallic ship controlled by an AI coded after his ex-wife's personality (Annie) that secretly loves him and flies around the Universe running away from his past while trying to forget his failures as a husband, father and freedom fighter. He does gun for hire jobs to survive and fuel his alcoholism (think firefly), but in the end of the day, he is just a guy with a heart of gold that doesn't seem to do anything right.

Top Storylines:

Re-Ignition
This is the first Fear Agent story. This arc ran from #1 to #4 and was reprinted in the first TPB of Fear Agent. This is the story that introduced us to Heath, Annie, most of the nasty alien races that will co-star latter on and the rest of the Fear Agent Universe.

This arc has a lighter mood than the latter ones, but it's a really engaging one. It's the genesis of it all and does a very good job in drawing in the reader.

The Last Goodbye
This story is the Fear Agent origin story. This is a must have for any Fear Agent reader. This story recounts how the Fear Agents came to be and what happened to Heath and his family, friends and the Human race. It is a great story about mistakes, bad decisions and a bit of bad luck all mixed up with an alien invasion.
This story runs from Fear Agent #12 to #15 or in the 3rd TPB of the series

Out of Step
This story is the end of the road for Heath Huston's story. All the misery, adventures, booze and time travel lead to this point. Family issues, personal failures and humanity's destiny all weight heavily on Heath's shoulders. The story contains fast paced action that you won't be able to put down until the very end. It is a fitting end to Heath's misadventures.

The final chapter can be read on issues #28 to #32 or the 6th TPB.

Heath Hudson Can Even Beat Superman:

No, he cannot. Not in a million years. There is no way our drunken space cowboy can stand against Big Blue.

He might have the necessary stupidity to stand up to him, but he is just a puny human with a fish bowl on his head, rocket pack on his back and a ray gun in his hand. Heath would be nothing more than a very light nuisance like a fly that could be swatted with the slightest effort.

However, due to his time travel shenanigans and his ability to screw every single situation in his life, it's likely that Heathrow will accidentally erase Superman from existence.

Where the Character is Today:

Heath Huston is nowhere to be seen, at least for the foreseeable future or forever. Rick Remender has stated that he is taking a break from Fear Agent and judging from the end of the last issue, Heath is not coming back any time soon.
Fear not, you can find all of Heath Huston the last Fear Agent's awesome space and time adventures in you LCS or any on-line retailer. TPB Volumes 1-6 and Tales of Fear Agent are available and very much in print everywhere (at the time of this article publishing).

Hopefully there will be more Fear Agent in the future but only time will tell.

I always thought of this like qa mass efect type of game, but it could work very well as a cartoon.
