If I recall correctly, Stephen Day has next week's pick; I get the week after him.

There's no amount of money too little to spend on either of those glossy-covered turdlets.

Due to my parents taking what cash I had in order to buy food, gas and other things, I'll be sitting this week out.

Captain Marvel #1

I wouldn't describe this issue as being truly horrible, but it's not something that's really all that great either. The big problem is that nothing really happens. Sure you have a fight with the Absorbing Man to start the issue off strong, but that's over and done with really quickly. Most of the issue was dedicated to Carol's relationship with Helen Cobb. The thing is, I found myself not really caring about who Helen Cobb is and that made the issue a little flat to me. It's a first issue and the job of a first issue is to get the reader interested in reading the series past that first issue. This first issue failed in this important mission, at last with me.

There were some good points, just to make it clear that it's not a total loss. As I've stated already, I liked the fight with the Absorbing Man and the sparing match with Spider-Man was amusing.

I guess I'll give it a 4 out of 10 -- very disappointing as I was hoping for a lot more.

Avengers vs. X-Men #8

Brian Michael Bendis's script is succeeds at one thing - making sure the reader is entertained with energetic and plausible (enough) scenes. I could say that he masterfully displays a great example of how power corrupts good souls, but that's not the case. Kind of like Mark Millar's Supercrooks, Bendis is more concerned with just getting the action going instead of leaving anything deep for the reader to ponder after the comic is over. The art looks nice, but I'm not as crazy for it as I was for Oliver Coipel's work in the previous issue. Don't expect much in terms of depth and you'll leave happy.

7* out of 10*

My sentiments exactly. The issue read like something out of a Michael Bay flick.
