You don't know anything at all about the process of purchasing a fully automatic firearm, do you?

If I were one of the cops, and this is the reason I could never been one, I would have put two bullets between his eyes when I walked on the scene. That obviously not being what happened, I don't think the guy even deserves to have a trial by his peers. He freely admitted to doing what he did, there is a theater full of witnesses that saw him do it, and he was arrested right there at the scene of the crime. So why waste time and money for the trial, and feeding and clothing this asshole until the trail is over. I say go ahead and publicly execute his ass and show the other fuckers in the world that are even thinking about doing some shit like this that we are no longer going to tolerate their insane bullshit any longer.

100% this. Could not agree more. It's so fucking clear-cut, I'll never understand why we just don't put people like this down as we would a sick animal.

People get shot all the time, it's dumb that this is getting wall to wall publicity. This is all just an excuse for the libtards in the media to go crazy calling for gun control for the next 2 months. Every day in this country hundreds of innocent babies are murdered by abortionists. Just last week it was uncovered that the Muslim Brotherhood had infiltrated the Obama administration and COngress. Those are the stories the media should be covering, but of course they won't.

Which is a semi-auto .223 rifle that looks like an M16 yet lacks full auto or burst firing modes. Functionally its no different than a .223 varmint hunting semi-auto my buddy owns.

That was the problem with the "assault" weapons ban, it was largely based on how scary a gun looked yet every anti-gunner I talked to seemed to think it was about regulating machine guns, which it had nothing to do with.

Yeah, er, you do know that an AR 15 is the SEMIautomatic version of the M16?

Fully auto weapons are illegal in most states, and where they're not, you must get a federal license to own one, which by all accounts is VERY tough to do.

Edit: Oops, I got beat to it!

Comparing the steps to get a state issued drivers license, which you have no right to as driving is a privilege granted by your State, to exercising your individual right to bear arms under the Bill of Rights is a bit dodgy IMO. Should one get a license and take classes to exercise their 1st Amendment rights?

Keep crazies away from purchasing firearms, states should make sure that people who have serious mental health issues are put in the appropriate databases so they fail the background checks, illegally getting a gun for someone who can't otherwise should be a serious felony if it already isn't. I don't think that would have done a thing to this guy from what I read he didn't have a mental health problem that was noted.

Thing is, these laws are written for the most part by people who know nothing at all about guns. I remember our idiot Senator, Feinstein was railing against "assault rifles" on a stage somewhere, brandishing an AR, wildly covering everyone in the crowd and on the podium with the muzzle, and the LEOs at the event all dove for cover before on on the podium managed to grab the thing away from her.

Pure comedy gold!

The mental health thing is quite an issue. Problem is there are a LOT of crazies who aren't listed anywhere as such, even though they are widely known to be nuts. Mental health laws are very strict on things such as involuntary commitment, which would disqualify someone from owning a firearm. The jerk in question here probably has no official diagnosis as having any mental health issues, despite all the signs being there.
