Hawkeye #1

Totally not what i was expecting given the tone of Fractions other books. It was really grounded and gritty.

Not much to spoil since it was basically a character spotlight for the first issue. Hawkeye stands up to a local Russian mobster to save the tenants of an apartment building from being evicted with not a bow or arrow in sight. Theres a cool scene where he goes Bullseye on the Russians with a deck of cards though.

A pleasant surprise.

If this book hadn't been identified as a Marvel title, I'd be inclined to have thought that is was an indie. And I mean that in many, many good ways. Nice job.

i MOSTLY loved this book. Aja's art, as always, was awesome. and Fraction certainly seems to get Clint, who's my second favorite Avenger of all time. and there was nary a sign of Kate Bitchop yet, so...YAY!

however, i think Fraction overwrote this one just a bit, trying to get cute with all the flashbacks/flashforwards etc. rather than just doing it linearly, b/c one thing really made no sense to me, so if somebody else can explain, please do so:

WTF was Clint doing hanging out in the Vet's waiting room post-"casino" fight but before the dog got hit by a car? it's like Fraction forgot his own timeline and threw one extra flashback-cut in there that screwed up the progression.

Yeah the timeline was a bit screwy.

And the whole thing with throwing cards, can we please get past this. In no way are they an effective weapon. Yeah sure, you can give a guy a really nasty papercut, but to make him stop cold? No.

His are charged with kinetic energy, so there is some leeway there for him, but for others using plain old fashioned playing cards, no.

I really disliked the character. But Fraction is turning me around. Really great work by Fraction and Aja.

That why I totally dislike Bullseye.
And as most as I love Hawkeye, unless your name is "Gambit", NO ONE who uses playing cards as weapons should be taken seriously and whoever try ,deserve to at the very least, get his/her ass kicked by the whoever he/she intended to take on.

What an insult.

Books like this are proof there's nothing indie writers are doing, that can't be done better with established characters

As for the book itsel---- The Rest Of This Post Has Been Pre-emptively Censored By Nietoperz and the Moderators who don't allow Bass to express his opinions because we disagree with them.

Opinions are fine, repeatedly insulting other posters when asked to stop is not. As you know.
