Nemesis Returns Delayed to Avoid Delays

Nemesis Returns by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven will be out in January 2013!

Source: Press Releaes

Originally promised for September, it turns out that Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Nemesis Returns will be hitting stores in January instead. According to the press release, the book is being delayed, ironically, so that Millar and McNiven can put the book out on time. It is widely believed that both McNiven and Millar actually move and talk in slow motion, sort of like the reverse of The Flash's superpowers, so it is not surprising that they needed some more time to complete this project.

A movie adaptation of the first volume of Nemesis, a four-issue miniseries released over the course of a year at Marvel's Icon imprint has been in the works for some time, but rumors that the project is dead in water surfaced earlier this year, which was surely depressing for the creators.

"I could barely bring myself to swim nude in my vault full of Kick-Ass money," said Millar at the time, reportedly.

Here's the press release, along with some preview art, which took ten years for McNiven to draw:

Millar & McNiven’s NEMESIS RETURNS – Launching January 2013!

Millarworld Ltd., have announced today that they will reschedule the release of Nemesis Returns, by the blockbuster creative team of Mark Millar & Steve McNiven. Both Millar and McNiven are committed to ensuring the new series hits a regular schedule and with the new launch date, fans worldwide can expect an experience like they never thought possible! In order to help facilitate the timeliness of the Nemesis Returns, Steve has teamed up with two exciting new talents and opened a new studio endeavor, Carbon Sun Studios.

“Nemesis means a lot to me and I want it to be the best of my stuff out there,” said McNiven. “I want it done right, and we’ll make sure Nemesis gets his due.”

Millar adds, “Did I mention that the series opens with a car driving out of an airplane and landing in a swimming pool?”

Nemesis Returns is a follow-up to Millar and McNiven’s 2009-2010 series Nemesis, which is currently available in comic shops and bookstores across the globe.

The first one was stupid beyond belief. Hopefully this one will be better but there's no guarantee.

A lot of people panned the first series for being predictable... While I agree that it was predictable, the only thing that hasn't been predictable in comics for the last 20 years is how badly DC fucked up their 'Nu' thingee.

That being said, I really liked Nemesis 1. It was a fun, bloody, mean - spirited action romp, and I'll definitely buy the second series when it comes out in March 2046.
...They Don't think it be like it is, but it do.

These types of delays explain why I trade wait for Millar's work.

I honestly didn't think it would be THIS bad... I figured some of the major books would be different, and folks'd be pissed and whatnot, but this shit is far, far more stupid than I would have dared assume. Bruce Wayne's BROTHER!? LIEFELD!? JLA - CONSTANTINE!?

Granted, the amount of comics I read, and the amount of 'give a shit' I have for the scene has dwindled steadily over the years, and I wasn't watching out for it, so I may have missed some lead - up, but the current DCU makes that Impact Comics bullshit from the 90's look like goddamn Watchmen, and I honestly thought comics would die before they got this goddamn dumb.
...They Don't think it be like it is, but it do.
