In an interview with Marvel.com, Kieron Gillen reveals some details about his upcoming Marvel NOW! Iron Man book!

Kieron Gillen spoke to Marvel.com this morning in an interview that belies the incestuous relationship between major comic book websites and publishing companies. In the interview, Gillen, who writes the best comic book ever produced in Journey Into Mystery, spills the beans on his upcoming Iron Man run with "artist" Greg Land. In the book, Tony Stark will apparently be both a samurai and ninja, giving Marvel's favorite Mary Sue, Wolverine, a run for his money.

Issue two is a lot like the Bruce Lee Kung-Fu Island story; it’s like a joust, it’s all about the knight imagery, essentially going to a tournament. Issue three is like a ninja story, Tony Stark trying to be a full-on stealth master, issue four is a horror story and issue five is something a little more romantic and scientific but I’m going to keep that one under wraps.

It's also about Arthurian legend:

The idea that Tony Stark is the grail-knight, or at least aspiring to be the grail-knight.

Mostly though, the book is about Tony getting laid.

I’m going to explore Tony and his relationship with women. I’m interested in Tony’s selection of women in everything, from his mom, to Pepper, to the random people he’s sleeping with and everything that relates to them.

Did Gillen just say Stark sleeps with his mom? In any case, Gillen's run is sure to examine what Iron Man is all about, with Tony undertaking some introspection:

There will come a day when youth will pass away. Then what will they say about me? When the end comes I know they'll say just a gigolo as life goes on without me.

It seems that the book will also feature a lot of porn stars and people reenacting scenes from movie posters, as Gillen says it plays to artist Greg Land's strengths:

It really plays to many of Greg’s strengths actually. When people see the issue, they’ll say it makes a lot of sense that Greg is the one drawing this.

Read the full interview here, in which GIllen also admits that his mom fancies Wolverine. It seems like the book might be really good, which makes it unfortunate that no one will read it since the internet hates Greg Land, and if the internet is known for anything, it is making good on promises not to buy a book because (insert unpopular writer or artist here) is the worst person ever.

Yeah, as much as I like Iron Man, I think Gillen just fucked any chance I had of reading this book to hell. I was really hoping Gillen's take would be all about Tony as a science fiction hero; S.W.O.R.D. was one of my favorite surprise reads ever, so I was hoping Gillen's Iron Man would hew more closely to that. Couple the seeming identity crisis he wants to put Tony through along with Greg Land's shit and I think I'll be passing, unless this somehow gets rave reviews.
