look, i agree they're overrated. God knows and YOU know i agree (and damn you for making me defend those slapdicks :x ). but they're still 2-1. they're still probably the best team in a weak "power" conference. and as such, i think they do deserve to be somewhere in the top 25. now, if polls didn't come out until around week 6, as SHOULD be the case, by then i might feel differently. but as the system stands, i have no problem with it.

They beat one division 2 school, barely beat a middle of the road MAC team, and got beat down by a really good team. That's not impressive. Hell Nevada could have done that if they had scheduled a shitty team like Ohio in their second game instead of Texas Tech, and they at least put up some points and played one decent half against Missouri. ECU is currently ranked 17th, 4 spots behind OSU, despite not losing and beating better teams. BYU is ranked behind them, despite being better. In fact every other team in the top 18 is undefeated and has beaten competition that is at least as good, so they shouldn't be higher than 18th at best. Then looking at the teams currently 19-25 you have unbeaten Utah that should be ahead of them, Florida St, who hasn't beaten anyone but hasn't lost, Kansas who played a much more competitive game in their loss, and other teams with similar situations like Clemson. OSU is about equal with most of those, but should be at best no better than 20th on that list. Add in teams that are unranked like Vandy, Boise St, UNLV, Oklahoma St, UNC, and Nebraska that have accomplished as much or more and you can easily make a case that they shouldn't be ranked right now. I fully expect them to win enough games to be a top 15 team by the end of the year, but they haven't played that good so far and don't deserve the ranking they have.

Honestly, right now I see it like this:
SEC
Big 12

Big Ten
MWC
MAC
Big East

Everyone else.

I agree. I just think the MAC is generally underrated in some circles.

Yeah, I just feel like the MWC and Big 10 are a little deeper, which is mainly what I base conference strength on.

They could have had Skip Holtz, but noooooooooo, they had to go all knee jerk and hire Bill Stewart.

The Tennessee/Florida game isn't sold out yet.
I was able to get 2 tickets for $25 a pop.
This is totally bizarre to me because for as long as I can remember this game was the hottest ticket in town.
I guess the VOL faithful aren't expecting a close game, but I'll be on campus at 8:30am hosting a bodacious tailgate.

I'm insanely jealous. I bet my dad goes, the fucker.

Oh yeah, where do you tailgate? And does the 'one man band' still play at the hotel on Kingston Pike? I always loved that dude.

The hotel is gone, brah. :(

Last week there was a band in the parking lot we tailgate in, and further down the pike there was a polka band dressed in orange lederhosen. 8)

We tailgate in the UT Federal Credit Union parking lot, it's across the street from the Old College Inn.

Yeah, it's an apartment complex now.
Knoxville's probably totally different than you remember it. Nathan left around 2000 and he wouldn't recognize it now, either.

I didn't leave TN until Feb of 2004, I was just living in Murfreesboro. The last time I was in Knoxville was the UT-South Carolina game that went like 3-4 OT's. I'm pretty sure it was '03 but it might have been '02. We didn't go anywhere near Kingston Pike, though. We had a 6 year old with us so we kind of hung around campus and did the Vol Walk, etc.
